Question about Klonopin

So here's something interesting...many of you know I was on Klonopin for about a month and when I got my Rx refilled it was a different company that made the drug. My body went haywire. I was getting rashes, tripping over myself, visual disturbances, constantly sedated, etc. It was awful. I learned that this reaction is incredibly rare.

Now that I have been tapering off (I am down to .25mg at night), my pain levels are increasing and my muscle spasms are becoming unbearable. It's like I traded one kind of "unwell" for another. It feels like I was so sedated, I wasn't noticing or experiencing the pain/spasms.

I did a quick Google and found that Klonopin has been used in the treatment of fibromyalgia but I'm not sure to what extent. I suppose sense it does have sedating effects it makes sense that I wouldn't be experiencing the pain/spasms when I'm on it. I'm kinda nervous about tapering off completely now. I don't want to go back to life pre-Klonopin. Can't live with it and can't live without out. ::sigh::

" I realized I didn't ask the question...(blame it on the fibro fog)...

Has anyone heard of utilizing Klonopin for anything other than anxiety when dealing with fibro? "

" DD, I'm on Klonopin, but it was prescribed for anxiety and sleep. I'm wondering since you did have the bad reaction to the new generic one, would your doctor be willing to mark your prescription as BRAND ONLY? I was still having muscle spasms while on Klonopin. They didn't start easing up until Flexeril was added. Klonopin doesn't make me feel out of it. Maybe you could use a lower dose if it works? "

" I was originally on .25mg 3x's daily. It was horrible. It was prescribed for panic attacks, but the panic attacks have subsided since doing some CBT work and figuring out what's really going on with my body.

My rheumy doesn't want me to try any new medication right now because everything I've been putting into my body recently (including for infections, so necessary stuff) is wrecking havoc. "

" This is a very very addictive drug and you have to go off it very slowly like reducing doseage by small amount once a month . It is also used for seizures as well as anxiety and spasms. You may have tried to discontiue to fast. I had a terrible time decresing the amount I took. I am still on it but a much lower dosage. If you have decreased this quickly you should probably increase it again for a little longer. good luck. This is a serious drug and drs hand it out to freely. good luck "

" No, I don't think the tapering was too fast. I have been decreasing the drug by .25mg every 10 days. What I have been doing is dropping the dose by .125mg every 5-7 days due to my sensitivity. The first 2-3 days I have terrible w/drawal and then I'm ok. I'm definitely feeling much better than I was on the 3x's per day.

I guess I was surprised to see that it was being rx for fibro patients to help manage pain, and was wondering if anyone else had heard of this. "
