Good Morning,
I hope you had a good Saturday: I did........nothing exciting, just slow and quiet, then a neighbor called and asked us to stop over for dinner and conversation....pain was manageable and energy level was not bad at all.....so it was a good day all around. I got a message this morning from a friend that got me thinking about childhood influences......this friend liked my avatar of Oblio and the story of "The Point"......I have always loved "You Don't Have to Have a Point, to Have a Point".....I used this as a teaching tool with my kids.....I like the story of "The Outsiders" and "The Lorax" and "Freddy the Freeloaders Christmas"..... have a few that I really like....how about you.......... Do you have a childhood story, book, movie, or cartoon that comes to mind from time to time because of the Moral of the Story I hope you find 100 reasons to smile today Posted on 07/05/09, 08:07 am |

When I was a kid, my mother gave me one of her favorite or only books she had managed to save from her childhood. It is called "Bayou Suzette"....a story of a young cajun girl in the swamps of Louisiana. I "lived" in that book when I was a kid. I still have it and probably should pass it down to my niece....now that I think of it.
Yesterday was a good day. Kids came over and we played Liar's Dice, ate and ate and ate and then set off a bunch of fireworks after dark. Gotta finsih up my SSDI papers today....wish me luck! Gentle hugs.... Basket

Morning My D and ladies!
D, I'm so happy you had a good day yesterday. I was hit with some of the worst fatigue I've experienced with Fibro. I had waves of fevers and nausea....and it took everything in my power to stay awake. I'm just so thankful it came on Saturday when the hubster was home! No fireworks here. I did something STUPID Friday night. I suppose I had it coming. LOL, I haven't done anything this stupid in a long time. So be careful everyone....the Stupid Gnome is making his rounds again! I forgot to turn off the sprinkler (I trusted a timer)....so I walked out to let the dog out and I rushed to turn it off as it was going for 9+hours. Then I looked up. It collapsed our gazebo. So, we were out at Home Depot looking at what we can afford. Grrr! I just purchased a new top for it less than a month ago. So, I have the "everything is breaking around here" flu! It's gotta be. Does anyone know of a cure? I'm desperate. The A/C (is broke again) The vacuum cleaner is still 'really clogged', the lawn mower , the gazebo....and my internal thermostat/ fatigue fixer...... I need a big box of crayons and some paper to battle all of this! And D, my favoritests cartoon (although there are many beloved seconds) is Winnie the Pooh. Big stories behind that. (I believed I was Christopher Robin and Pooh was my best friend for many years & I used to tell my Grandpa that I was Pooh, and my knick name began) But I love the scene where Pooh and Christopher were talking about love, friendship and how long they want to live. Christopher Robin said he wants to live to be 100. Pooh then says "I want to live to be 100 minus one day so I never has to live a day with out you" . When my hubster and I got married, I had this quote among many others hung up around the house. But Pooh has been with me my entire life. He was my life for a few short years. And I've been called Pooh ever since by my family. I hope everyone has a great day today! HUGS!!!

D, excellent, GREAT topic for today. My fourth was quiet. I went to Lens Crafters to get my new eye prescription - progressive lenses put in, then to Bristol Farms to get a few groceries -whole watermelon for .39 cents a pound, then to a Christian bookstore to get two T-shirts and one baseball cap, then to Albertson's to get the weeks worth of groceries then home to eat lunch, rest, eat dinner and watch fireworks on TV and around my home. Today, church then to watch a sailing race - big boats start then to Albertson's to return two items and then home to eat lunch and rest.
D, I grew up watching "Lassie" staring June Lockhart, and the original Mickey Mouse Club, and Captain Kangaroo. I learned from watching those three shows to eat all the food on your plate and don't waste it by throwing it out in the trash since there are people starving all over the world.

Great 4th worked in the garden picking snaps (green beans for non southerners) then took the granddaughter to the fireworks
Rainy today so I can be slow and lazy without an excuse Wow, love the topic, I too loved The Outsiders and still read it, ditto for The Lorax, been reading that to granddaughter since she was 3. I love the old Shirley Temple movies, The Smurfs (cartoon), but my favorite movie is Dirty Dancing. Trish, love the avitar, reminds me that no matter what happens I should always look for the rainbow.

Slow day here yesterday; just me and the animals. I decided at about 2 o'clock that I was going to treat myself to Chinese food for dinner because I didn't want to cook (even if you CAN throw hot dogs in the microwave). I had a craving for Chinese. I waited until 4PM, fed the animals and took off to go to Pick up Stix for dinner...they were closed! Oh come on! I really wanted Chinese! So, I drove to the other side of town to find a Panda Express. It was open! I remembered that I had a card for a free veggie roll, so I gave it to the cashier who asked the manager how to process it, and he stamped the card full and I got my whole dinner for free! So driving across town this time paid off for me!
I had a vibrating bed that didn't quit for me to put more quarters in (do they still have those beds?) I had scared dogs and a cat (yep, she actually tolerated the dogs being in the bed without complaint) sleeping with me all night. Tonka always breathes so hard that he shook the whole bed. It lulled me to sleep. Except for the five times someone in the neighborhood decided to shoot off another LOUD fireworks! Oh let's see, something that had a moral to the story from my childhood.... I remember being really taken by the sorcerer and the brooms and water buckets in Fantasia. Not sure what moral it taught me though! Have a good Sunday! :o)

morning D!
yesterday was pretty quiet here too, where usually July is FULL of fireworks till the end of the month! my 1st summer here we had over 300 brush fires in the month of July alone just from all the fireworks. but this year it has been oddly quiet. anyways.... stories that had an impact on me since childhood? well i'd have to say i think there were 2 of em. "David and Goliath" and "Daniel in the lions den". maybe it's these stories that helped me be strong while growing up... and now that i'm adult, has helped me make big decisions with no fear. awesome topic! btw, Wonder, i LOVE your avatar! LOL

Hello Girls,
Trish, I hope your day turned out to be a good one. Basket, That is a new one for me...I never heard of it. I think it is a great idea to pass it on. WonderWoman, I have sent the Brilliant Gnome to your house to capture that Stupid one and imprison him....you will be safe from now on. And Pooh, one of my all time favorites....my oldest daughter started collecting Pooh's when she was very small....I can't even guess at how many she has now and each one is cuter than the one next to it. Brown, I loved Captian Kangaroo also....I watched it every morning. Ravens, I love all of those stories and of course Dirty Dancing too.....Patrick Swazy surely could dance Sam, I hope you got some Chinese today. LOL on the dog breathing and rocking....I know exactly what you mean...Chips does the same thing LOL Blue, Gosh! I had forgotten those stories....Good ones
