I have been with my pm dr since march 2008. All of my urine tests were neg except for my xanax and my oxycodone which i am prescribed by him and m primary care dr. Well this past one i tested positive for thc. so i asked the nurse what that was and she said marijuana. So i told her there must be some mistake because i dont smoke marijuana. So she asked me had i been around second hand smoke and i said well i was in the car driving with my cousin and she smoked a joint but her dr is aware she does it to help with nausea from her cancer treatment. She told me it would be sent to a lab for confirmation. So my question is can my pm dr drop me for testing positive for this even though my test before have always been neg for street drugs? I know he will probably retest me again not a problem they wont find anything but my meds im prescribed but im terrified when I go back on the 30th that he will drop me as a patient. Have any of you ever experienced this and your dr drop you? I know some of you use this as a medical treatment. Can he drop me for having it in one test out of all the others? I love my pm dr and would hate to lose him as a part of my medical team.

I love Lemon Poppy Seed muffins. I've been told that the Poppy Seeds can cause a false positive IF I'm ever drug tested. If you eat these too, you might want to explain to your doctor what some of your diet consists of.
Some very innocent foods can cause a test to read positive even though you haven't touched the drugs. As for your cousin and contact smoke, I'm sure you didn't absorb enough second hand smoke to cause your test to turn out that way. Please check your diet and do some research. you have a lot to lose here. Unfortunately, yes, the pain clinic can refuse to treat you due to the urinalysis results. It doesn't matter to them if you're innocent of wrongdoing or not, their license could be on the line.

Unfortunately, they can do just about whatever they want to do in a case like that. BUT you would think there would be a certain amount of compassion and understanding when it comes to chronic pain.
You are within your rights to ask for a hair follicle test. That will show any drug you ever took in your lifetime. That should show a lack of THC. I have my license to use medical marijuana and although my DO isn't completely convinced that it is not going to have some long term effect, he goes along with my choice. Hopefully, things will work out and your doctor will continue to treat you. I'll keep it in my prayers. Gentle hugs...

I agree with what the others have shared. The docs have a lot on the line when it comes to loosing it. I can definitely see their side of the fence.
As for the poppy seeds in foods. Yes, my sister was banned from eating them when she worked as an air traffic controller. She nearly lost her job over a poppy seed muffin. The FAA doesn't have much tolerance. I wouldn't worry too much about it (if you can). I know how much is riding on these pain clinics and how they treat us. But if you happen to get discharged for something like this.....then I'd request a meeting with the office manager to discuss this further. Get a copy of your chart from them too. If they falsify any records of yours you can get them for slander as they are implying that you have smoked marijuana.

Yep - I know someone who got dumped by their pain doc for testing positive for marijuana.
They can, and they do.

I havent had this happen but my sis works at a pain clinic and she said yes you can be dropped for this. Request to be retested. Good Luck!
