Savella - Day Four

Good afternoon, and for those in the US, happy Fourth of July!
I not only slept well last night, I slept for 12 hours straight! I woke up at 1:00 p.m. and asked my husband why he let me sleep so long, and he said "you were sleeping so good I didn't want to wake you!" Funny thing is, once I woke up and sat up in bed, I was instantly alert and not groggy like usual. I have had some mild nausea today that receded with a bit of food or a soft drink, only to return an hour or so later, but it's not unmanageable and it hasn't kept me from doing what I wanted to do today. We went for a bike ride (I have a motor on my bike in case I get tired) and I only had to stop once to drink something until the nausea subsided again. I have been using a spot on my body that NOTHING has ever been able to touch - a spot on my rib cage under my arm - that is always painful no matter what med I'm on. I've been using that spot as my "measure" of whether anything is happening with the pain. I touched it yesterday - even a light touch is extrememly painful on this spot - and it was still painful, but I tried it again today, and I was able to put light pressure there and not scream in pain. I hope that's a good sign. I picked that spot to test because nothing has ever made a difference there - it always, always hurts. So...this is GOOD! Someone asked in the Day Three thread about weight gain - it's my understanding that people actually tend to LOSE weight with Savella rather than gain. I think that's partly because on the full dose it acts as an appetite suppressant. I don't eat much anyway, so it's hard to tell about that, but I have lost a pound according to my scale. I can't attribute that to the Savella (although it could be) because I've been going to the gym regularly for about two weeks, as well as riding my bike to work (remember I have a motor so not too strenuous). At any rate, I'm not GAINING weight, which is what most people worry about. So far - so good - there are a few others on it as well and they are chiming in on these threads, which is great! I've gotten tips from others who are taking it, including a suggestion to take it early in the evening and not wait until bedtime, which I have done. If anything else develops today I'll post again, but it's 7:00 p.m. here and all is well. Posted on 07/04/09, 07:07 pm |

Gentle hugs...

I've got my fingers crossed. This really sounds terrific for you.
Me, I'm too terrified to try any more new drugs, especially one in this class. I am having a bit of luck with the anti-viral and the Atkin's diet. I honestly think the bend over headaches are decreasing. But this is just me. Being recently diagnosed with epilepsy really explained a lot of things but it's also really changed, like, everything. It's only been a few weeks and already I feel like another person. It hasn't been an easy transition - and I'm barely out the gate. Writing in our journals not only helps us to keep things straight, but it will also chronicles our individual journeys to wellness. I don't know about you, but reading what others are sharing inspires me. Even though Savella isn't for me, I'm encouraged by your success. Thanks for sharing your progress.
