Good Morning,
Happy 4th of July to all the Americans. So what is the 4th of July anyway..... "During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred ON July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia."....Wikopedia How many of you ever heard of Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.......I bet not a lot, could tell me anything about him........I bet that people could tell me about Jefferson...."he was the guy who wrote the Declaration of Independence and became a president.....senator.....um...had this cool house....yeah, I know that for sure.....oh yeah and he had a slave mistress and kids....um....hm....wait a minute I know more", is what some would say. So who was this Richard Henry Lee of Virginia anyway......the people from his home town probably know all about him.....and his descendants......but do you....... . So, Jefferson is known as the author of the Declaration of Independence....da da daaaaaaaa BUT who helped him.....do you know there was a Committee of Five men with the job to write this document..... Who was on that Committee of Five.......they were Mr. John Adams, Mr. Benjamin Franklin, Mr. Thomas Jefferson, Mr. Robert R. Livingston, and Mr. Roger Sherman......you know team dynamics....the other 4 probably had a meeting, "Ooooo I have a date tonight....I hate working with him....do we have to....Let's get Tom to write it, he doesn't have any social life anyway....then I promise I will help edit it tomorrow."..... So, Thomas Jefferson was tasked by the other four members of the committee to write the first draft............The document was ready for review on July 1st...they hmm'd and haw'd and debated...then decided that the document should not blast the British people or call for the abolition of slavery, so they wanted those paragraphs taken out....they were removed ....then off to the printer....talk talk.....and the document was not really signed until August 2,nd Now you know..... So, Is John Hancock only famous because he had really big writing.......what else did he ever do anyway..... I will have to remember to sign my name big from now on. Are any of you related to any of the delegates or signers.......tell your story I hope you find 100 reasons to smile today Posted on 07/04/09, 07:07 am |

Happy Birthday America!!!
So, D, this is how I think it all happened Many Moons ago. There was this group of former Cricket players. They didn't have much to do after farming and scoping out the lands.....they were big dreamers as that was a pre-requisite to come to the Land of the Free. So, they started thinking......we need to lock into this freedom...Some how. So they thought about it for a couple of months and it came time to put things down on paper. For now they were using napkins and the wives were getting pretty upset having to try and get the ink stain out of their only napkins. So, as we all know how 'men' are.....no one wanted to write it. So they said....hey, Johnny will do it...."yah, give it to good old Johnny', so that is how John Handcock got on the Declaration. Mr Lee, was a Rich old crabby guy. He didn't like watching everyone run around all "wild and free". He kept yelling at the kids and the dogs running through town. Think of Scrooge when you think of Mr Lee. And since he was the "richest" man in the colony, everyone HAD to honor his requests. He was like an early American Banker per se. So, the Cricket gang got together.....and they had to think of a way to appease Mr Lee and make it so that the kids and dogs could still run around. For the record, Mr Lee was the man behind the dumping of the tea into the harbor too! Everyone at first thought it was going to be a party....and well, you mix that with a few drinks...the crowd got little too wild, mixed with an Angry Mr Lee....voila. Boston Tea Party happens! So, today we celebrate this Happy Event. Which was really caused by a grumpy old rich man and a bunch of Cricket player who needed to outwit him. And sadly, I am not related to any of these men....I am related to the kids who were running around amok with their dogs. But I do know a few of "Paul's Sons" "John's sons" "Ander's Sons" . Happy 4th Everyone!

Happy birthday America! Wait, did we not exist until July 4th 1776? Please forgive my ignorance; although I was born in the US, I was raised in France until I was 14 years old.
As far as I know I'm not related to any of these gentlemen, but I am related to the original Hatfields that caused the big Hatfield and McCoy feud! I think my great, great, great (may be more greats in there) grandfather is the one who stole the McCoys pig than served it to them at a dinner... Sadistic relatives. Sure, that's all I need! Happy holidays everyone!
