Dodged bullet: No Mucinex

When I saw my doc last week, he was so pleased with my Savella results he decided NOT to start the Mucinex treatment. It was a relief, mostly because it means I can go back to my beloved plant derived products. I came right home and slathered coconut oil on my feet and my Clinique moisturizers on my face!! Thank God for small pleasures. Oh, the Savella is doing a lot for me. On a scale from 1-10, where my energy was a 4-5 before, I'm now a 6-7. Fingers crossed.

Way to go! I just finished Day Three (getting ready to post) and no real benefit yet, but I'm only up to 25 mg twice a day.
Hope it keeps working for you and for me!

I think I figured out the only reason Mucinex was working for people, there is a paper written by Dr. St Armand which is the scientific paper that he didn't want laypeople to read, but me being a science major who has taken research method courses-I decided to read it. Right at the top in the intro, it states that Guafeinsin has been reported to have ANALGESIC properties-analgesic? As in like NSAIDS, Opiates, etc.? That would explain the "maintenance" dose requiring such excessive amounts on a daily basis, and that is why there is a "reversal process"- I figured that somehow this analgesic cancels out the effects of effects of regular analgesics which every real fibro sufferer takes due to the real pain we all suffer from, I don't really care about my lethargy as much as my pain personally. And the reason you get worse at the beginning of the trial is due to withdrawals from other medications perhaps, which explains why the symptoms arise and intensify at the beginning then begin to subside while you increase your mucinex dose. On top of all of this, the theory is based on really unlikely assumptions, and for some reason you can't measure the progress you make even though it is possible to measure the amounts of phosphates being excreted from people in their urine? I don't know, I tried this though for 2 weeks but I realized my pain meds weren't working, I wanted to believe it would work but I knew it wouldn't, I guess desperate people do stupid things. Also, I read that Mucinex does alter some neurological processes, much in the same way conventional analgesics work, so all of this kind of just hit me while I was thinking about it. Does that make sense to anyone else?

Yes Shawn it actually does make a lot of sense and of course, most of us would have no clue that there is analgesic properties in Mucinex! It's getting so all medications are getting too scary to take! Thank you for the information.

Shawn that makes perfect sense - thanks for the info! A lot of people have had a lot of questions about that treatment, and this is really good information.
So much for the "cure" of mucinex - it's just another pain drug - probably with side effects of its own.
