It's My Turn - Savella Day One

OK I did it - I saw my PCP yesterday and he had just gotten in the titration packs of Savella. Today is my first day, and I'll keep y'all posted as I go through the weekend and next week with the starter dosage.

I'm really hopeful that this is going to work for me. I'd love to stop taking even one of the pain meds - like to not have to worry about whether I have my breakthrough meds.

So...Day 1...I'll let you know how it goes.

" Yes there is wiggle room. I have two starter packs and took the first pills from each pack now I'm up to the 50mg twice a day. Everything is going well for me. "

" For the person who was asking about Ultram/Tramadol with Savella, I asked about that, and was told that they should be OK together, as the Tramadol doesn't have enough impact on Serotonin to cause serotonin syndrome with Savella.

Savella is the first drug that elevates norepinephrine to a higher level than serotonin - which is what makes it different from Cymbalta, which also raises the levels of both.

I hope this is helpful. "

" Hi Peacen2you. I would not recommend Tramadol with Savella because it can cause some dangerous interactions. I learned that it's a dangerous combination after becoming ill while taking this combination. My own Dr. didn't know the danger because Savella is so new. Research led me to the following site which outlines the possible dangerous interaction between Savella and Tramadol. Please read the site from the link below.

I wish you the very best with Savella, but I don't want anyone to make the mistake of combining the two drugs like I did! Boy, was I sick!
Hugs!
Sue "

" Sue, I appreciate your thoughts, but I'm relying on the advice of a doctor involved in research after 30 years of private practice, and he also holds a PhD in microbiology. The primary action of Savella is on the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, with a lesser effect on serotonin.

At any rate, I don't plan to continue the Tramadol once I get to the full dosage of Savella - the plan is to discontinue over about a week, as my body is very dependent on the Tramadol and I'll have to wean off gradually.

I really appreciate all of the comments, and I'm happy that so far I can report very little in the way of side effects, and I'm actually starting to see benefits! "

" Im doing well on it. However I do notice if i dont eat enough I will vomit. The only side effects I have experienced is nausea and also mild headaches in the beginning. I do seem to sleep better and can think more clearly. I hope it helps! Keep us posted on your progress and if it helps! Take care! "

" thanks to everyone who has posted in response to my questions regarding taking Ultram with the Savella. Your information has been very helpful. I am happy to report that I have been feeling better for the past few days & even able to do some gardening/yard work. Hopefully, it is the Savella kicking in & I will continue to feel better. I am still having fatigue, but the pain has improved greatly. The nausea has subsided & I am not really feeling any side effects at this time. I have found that it helps to take the pm dosage early in the evening to avoid insomnia. Blessings to all. "

" Hey just thought I would post that I am NOT having good results from Savella. No difference in pain levels and the nausea and hot flushes are not tolerable for me..I tried it for a month.. "
