OK I've done my rant on the stupid articles. This one is excellent IMHO. It not only lists a number of alternative therapies to try, it explains in plain English why they are effective.

This one came in my AARP newsletter - enjoy!

" Thanks I saved it and will read more about the meditation later. I had a post about alternatives also, but seem very few of us are interested in how to improve ourselves. But the few of us that are appreciate us that work to find these articles/ "

" thanks Peace, good article.

now, DDntn, would you like to please explain to us what is your definition of "improve ourselves"? i refer to your post:

"but seem very few of us are interested in how to improve ourselves. But the few of us that are appreciate us that work to find these articles/".

i most certainly am interested in improving myself, and i also work to find articles (among other things i do) for the group. or is it only helpful (in your mind) if it is drug-free? "

" I think for most people the solution is probably a balanced mix of conventional medicine and alternatives. I take pain meds and because of them I am much more functional,

That in turn allows me to be more physically active, which helps both my mental and physical health.

Everyone has to do what works for them - and what they are most comfortable doing, but for me, the meds allow me to be more functional so that I can ride my bicycle (if it ever gets warm again), take my motorcycle class (yaa hoo!), take walks with my fur babies, and even do a bit of traveling at times.

I also have looked into acupuncture (will try it soon), EFT (very interesting and I'm going to pursue it), healing energy, massage, and chiropractic. I take good quality supplements and do my best to eat right, maintain a healthy weight, and now that I have insurance again, I will get caught up on my screening tests such as mammogram and endoscopy (history of GERD).

My motto is "everything in moderation." I also don't think there are any "stupid ideas" until you have researched them and can make an intelligent assessment. "

" i agree Peace, which is why i have an open mind to both conventional and alternative therapies, and don't dis one of them out of hand. i also do not believe in dis-ing a therapy that others use, such as drugs.

frankly, everyone, i would not be alive today if it were not for prescribed medications. time and again they have saved my life. particularly in the area of anti-depressants, dis-ing drugs and dis-ing people who take them is so, so harmful, because it is hard enough as it is to persuade some people to take their meds, without people encouraging them not to.

i have lost 3 friends to suicide (at different times, none of them knew each other), because they thought their meds were useless or dangerous. this is a life and death matter. that's why i have the courage to speak up about it, and not hide and pretend i haven't read a post. "

" I agree with, Peace.....I think it is a combination of things that make a difference.

In defense of DD, I understand the frustration of posting articles and not having anyone respond. It can be aggravating posting informative articles and just watch them slide right off the board with no one seeming to read them. It does make you wonder sometimes.

BUT I continue to post them. If people read them, great....if they don't, oh well. I assume that many of them are like me. Read the article and then forget to go back and make a comment. And if my posting helps one person....whether I know it did or not, I am glad I posted it.

Gentle hugs.... "

" I like the different sections on the various treatments. I'm happy to see Osteopathy on the list but sad that Reflexology wasn't.

I like lists...I'm a lister! ROFL Thanks Peace!~ "

" Basketmoon, i always appreciate your posts and the articles you provide, and it should be obvious to all that i similarly appreciate DDntn's articles, and her posts when they are not antagonistic and in my view promoting an anti-drug stance that i consider unhelpful.

what i don't appreciate is the kind of passive-aggresive behaviour shown in this post in another thread which have the timestamp showing it was shortly after my question to DDntn. i leave readers to be the judge as to whether she is making a reference to me or it is purely coincidental that she is posting these words at that time and responding in numerous threads - except this one.

Like carrie said we need a ignore button for life, but at least we have an ignore button on here to ignore things that stress us out or people that like to cause trouble, LOL "

" Personally I have chosen the natural methods of dealing with my health issues. BUT I also implement many of the medications that my DO prescribes for me.

I think we all respect each other for our choice of treatment. We are all different so it only makes sense that we all respond differently to different treatments or drugs.

I tell people....find what works for you and stick with it. I'm glad you have found what works for you. I have found what works for me and will continue to share articles to others that have chosen the more natural alternatives. It does not mean that I am "dis-sing" (don't think this old woman has ever said that word) anyone.

We are all just trying to share what information we find to anyone that might be interested. "
