I got this from the link I list for the health matters show with cindi crawford, she has tons of good info,

Fibromyalgia: Diet and Symptom Cause
Maybe you've heard that people with Fibromyalgia can be affected by their diet and maybe you haven't. Everyday evidence suggests that many people react "symptom-wise" to what they eat (ingest).

Here is one example:

People who ingest any food substance with caffeine-- through
drinking or eating coffee, tea or chocolate-- are likely to see an increase in pain. (We'll call these substances food for the sake of this discussion.) When you eat or drink these foods, they react biochemically and energetically with your body. They activate it to be more hypervigilant and increase the biochemicals that make you sensitive to pain.

The fact that caffeine may increase pain is a generally accepted statement by medical professionals. However, there are a couple of exceptions, one being the over-the-counter drug Excedrin.

It is constructed as a pain reliever plus caffeine. Their purpose here is that the addition of caffeine works as a catalyst in making the pain reliever work more efficiently for certain types of pain.

But make no mistake, caffeine is more likely to increase the pain of a person with a condition such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, an autoimmune illness or arthritis.

If you're in pain, stay away from caffeine.

" Sometimes I have caffiene, sometimes I don't - makes no difference to my pain whatsoever - except that on weekends if I don't have my coffee in the morning I get a headache because my body is used to it.

The "exception" for Excedrin makes no sense and I tend to discount things that make no sense. I do know that the caffiene in Excedrin behaves exactly the same as any other, as it put me in the emergency room years ago when I was taking a med and was prohibited from having caffeine. I had no idea Excedrin had caffeine and borrowed a couple of tablets from a friend because I had a headache.

Not fun.

But bottom line, first, I discount what doesn't make sense - that's just me being rational. Second, I am not willing to give up another part of my life to fibro without clear evidence that it will make a difference. I have cut out caffeine - didn't help - actually felt worse.

So - do what you will - but I'm going to continue feeding my Starbucks addiction :) "

" I drink 3-4 cups of coffe in the morning. I get up with a headache most days and the caffeine actually helps the headache go away.

I also drink pepsi, but I have started buying both regular and caffeine-free, since drinking the regular pepsi in the evening, makes it harder for me to sleep. I haven't noticed an increase in pain, it actually helps my headache pain. "

" I stopped drinking caffiene for like 3 or 4 months and did not notice any difference in my pain levels "
