OK finally doctor gives me something for the pain... after muscle relaxers don't work and ambien CR don't help with sleep they give me DARVON for the pain every 4 hours... Thing is I can only take it at night since it makes me sleepy. I did sleep and it did help with the pain, although I had to take it every 4 hours. First night of sleep in 3 weeks. Now what??? Can't get hooked on Darvon, not to mention I take Topamax for migraines....Anyone else take Darvon???

" never heard of it but glad u have something to help u at least. Maybe try taking a smaller dose or spaced out the time??? Maybe that would help. Any time I get a new or different medication I always go online and search it. Learn all I can about what Im taking. Good luck hun. Keep me posted on how it goes.

" Hi, I have taken every medication---ms contin, diluad, oxycontin, percocet every strength, vicoden family, darvocet etc,ect--for sleep i take 2 xanx 1mg, works good, also lunesta but was to expensive, works very well--maybe your insurance will cover it-or Dr. can do prior auth---I worked in pharmacy for 20 years until aug 07---dr made me resign due to fibro---i still keep up with all laws and medications on internet and Astra Zeneca, contacted me, after I sent resume a while ago, they said when I am ready to return to my career they would work with me, and I could work from home as a research support for the future of new medications...I was so shocked....i hope my suggestion helps...Have a great night..Larac.. " When you say "can't get hooked on Darvon" are you saying you're afraid of becoming addicted? Do you have a history of substance abuse? If not, then your only real risk is physical dependence, which is not the same as addiction. The only thing dependence means is that if you had to stop taking it later, you'd have to wean off to avoid withdrawal.

If it works, and doesn't have side effects you can't tolerate, go for it! "

" Darvon is very addictive. Most dr.s don't have a clue about some drugs. "

" i have taken darvocet since 1989. I dont think im "addicted" when I had a good remission of 3 months I didnt take it at all. Darvocet is Darvon with tylenol in it. I am also taking Skelaxin which is a muscle relaxer. occasionly take ambien for sleep. Darvocet works for me..... if it aint broke dont fix it....if it works for you go for it. "

" Paws, I believe you are confusing addiction with dependence, as many people do. Addiction means you are treating something other than pain with the pain drugs. In other words, you are unhappy, and the drugs help you to escape from your unhappiness. If you are taking the drugs to treat what they are made to treat (pain) and you are using them appropriately, that is not addiction. Dependence only means you may have to wean off if you need to stop taking the drug. There is no "danger" in dependence.

Studies have shown that most people who become addicted to prescription pain meds have a history of substance abuse. Addiction doesn't happen just because you take narcotic meds. "

" i have been taking Darvon for 18 years. i only take it when I need it. i am not afraid of becoming addicted, I am afraid of running out. it works great but I'm surprised your doc hasn't given you Amitryptilin (brand name Elavil) to take at night. I take 75mg at 9pm and now sleep well after not being able to sleep for almost 3 years. It is an antidepressant but works to promote sleep in those with Fibro. Take care...hugs jilly "

" Thank you for all the info on Darvon. I forgot to mention that I take Topamax for migraines 100mgs, so Dr. won't give me just any other meds to mix with Topamax. I have been a Migraine suffer for 30 years. I just found out I have Fibro 2 weeks ago. Guess this is going to be a work in painful progress. Thank you again. "
