I had an appointment with my nuerologist yesterday and he prescribed Ultram-ER. I took one yesterday and it seemed like it lowered my joint and muscle pain plus took my headache away. It is for pain but isnt a narcotic and thats what I like about it. Just curious if anyone else is on it and what they think about it.
Has anyone had any bad side effects? Does it work good for your pain? Posted on 08/28/08, 11:08 am |

Ultram ER is a extended release RX. The generic for it is Tramadol which i take. I love it. You cannot take more than 400 mg a day. Since i have started taking the Tramadol i have really felt a good bit better. When i was at my DR office when he prescribed the med to me at first he gave me samples of it which is the Name Brand Ultram. It seems to me i did not get as much relief from the Ultram as i do the Tramadol though for some reason.
Just a heads up for future refrence you cannot take any certain NSAIDS with the Ultram or the Tramadol. So if you look up what over the counter meds you can take with this med. Also my dr is a total dumb butt a few months back he prescribed Cymbalta for me to take with the Tramadol. YOU CANNOT TAKE THE 2 TOGETHER. It can cause seizures and can be fatal. So just becareful what you can take with the Ultram. I hope you get alot of relief out of it as i have. Good Luck & Hugs, Kelly

One more comment on this post. Ultram IS a narcotic, so if you are not wanting to take narcotics to relieve your pain you may want to reconsider this product. Good Luck, HUG

Ok I just read it is not classified as a narcotic but is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic. But it did state that you can have withdrawel symtoms.

I have been taking Tramadol for almost two months now I think and it has helped alot. I first got it when I was in my worst flare ever and it helped me get through it. I started with 50mg, after two to three weeks I had to go to 100mgs. When that started not working as well the doctor also gave me Salsalate to take with it and it is a NSAID. I had to stop taking to the Salsalate because of stomach problems. The Tramadol still helps with the everyday aches and pains and it helps to take the edge off but if things get anyworse then I am going to have to do something more. As far as not being able to take it with Cymbalta I think it is more a slim chance of something happening but don't take my word on it, if you worried about it them go ahead and call your doc. but it says I'm not supposed to take it with my Paxil either but I have no problems, I think they are just mandatory warnings.

IT worked for me for about a week, then quit, and worse yet, I figured out it was giving me migraines everytime I took it!

Tramadol is not a narcotic, but acts on the opiod receptors in the brain in a similar manner to narcotics. It is not a Schedule 2 drug and is not "controlled" in the US, so most doctors will prescribe it even when they will not prescribe narcotics.
There is some physical dependency created, so you have to wean off if you're going to stop, as there will be side effects if you stop cold turkey. There is very little abuse, as there is no "high" from this drug. I was a little drowsy for a week or so when I started on it, but that wore off quickly. It also killed my appetite for a while, which is always good LOL

i have taken it for nearly 18 months now. It's like a mircale drug for me. I was told I can take 1or 2 tabs. I can not tolerate taking 2 at once. so I wait 2 hours and if no relief I take another one. But I have found out taking over the counter motrin helps me too. but you need to be careful with that as its hard on the gut. for give my missed spelled words fibro fog. lol

My pharmacist said it says if you take Cymbalta with Ultram-er that it could cause Seritonin Syndrome or seizures but she said that she thought it would be ok - I havent heard back from my doc yet.
He has me on 200 mg a day - is that a high dose?????? - from what I read it looks like it is - It is time released.
