Avinza & Kadian

Is there really much of a difference between the two, aside from one of them you take twice daily?

How would I get one of my doctors to prescribe this for me? Is it something that most doctors will not do?

I left a message with my Rheum. yesterday morning but still have not heard back.

It's my 2nd day since my last ER visit, and I'm still far from feeling "alright".

Are there other similar medications I should be looking out for?
On top of the FMS I have Chronic Migraines.

" I took Kadian for a short while.  Had to go off it due to side effects (constipation, anxiety, ringing in ear).  Kadian is time release morphine. Before you can start taking it you have to be opoid tolerant.  So if you are currently on some type of narcotic, it may be a possibility.  If you are not on narcotics, they have to get you on them and slowly up the dose until they think you are OK to start morphine. I believe that most pain management Dr.s will prescribe Kadian. I have no experience with Avinza. "

" I've been on Percocet and Hydrocodone for 3-4 years now (not every day, only as needed, sometimes a few times a month, sometimes daily for a week or more).
I'm also on Vicodine every night, and I also have Dilauded to take as needed.

Plus several visits to the ER to abort migraines. I think it's safe to say that I am tolerant of them.

Thanks! "

" Why do you want to go on Kadien? Just curious.

I was on Kadien for 3 days. I went thru pure hell with side affects. The first pill i took made me feel like i was going to die, i didnt feel right and cried all night long, about nothing, which is not something i would normally do.

Next night i took one, everything hurt 10 times as bad as when i wasnt taking it and it made me feel like i was crazy.

I thought ok,, maybe i just need to get used to this med, so i took it the 3rd night, same thing happened.

I called the doc i had seen, her nurse told me to continue it,, NOT.

I know everyone reacts differently to meds but in doing research kadien can cause several problems with your internal organs including heart attack.

It is an anti depressant.

If you want something for pain talk to your doc about this.

This is just my experience with kadien. "

" Avinza is a 24 hour, time release form of Morphine. I do have experience with it and my body built up a tolerance to it and I had to quit cold turkey.
It's a Schedule II drug, you must be in a Pain Management program to get it.
I didn't like what it did to me and when my body finally rejected it, it was a day of realizing I had been a walking zombie.
Please weigh the pro's and con's before stepping off into these dark drugs. Just a suggestion.

" Unfortunately nothing else has worked yet, and my conditions are only getting worse.

I have more going on then just the FMS and Migraines.
I need real pain control/management.

I'm sick of years worth of "oh lets see if this anti-depressant fixes all your problems".
I've been on just about every single one of them often 2 or 3 times!

I'm tired of living in pain, day in, day out.
I have a kid, I have a full time job. A family and a house depending on me feeling well.

Instead of trying a new method, all my doctors throw me back onto old treatments, that never worked the first time around.
And when I come back to tell them "Hey this didn't work either!"

All they have to say to me is "I don't know what I can do for you, I don't think there is anything."
Or
"I can not cure this illness, all I can do is try to help ease the pain".

But they aren't helping!
I don't want to wait several more months or years to find the "right" treatment.
I've been suffering for years while I patiently waited for the "right" treatment.

Why must I continue to suffer in the process?

Tired of it... "

" I have taken both Kadian and Avinza. I went on Fentanyl patches 50mcgs, but they are not working, so I am getting my pain management doc to put me back on Avinza. It helped a lot with my FMS and rheumatoid and OA pain. I also have spinal stenosis and it helped a lot more with that pain. Both Kadian and Avinza are time-released morphine meds. With the fentanyl pattches, I still am feeling all my pain. I cannot function at all this way. The only problem I have with morphine is the constipation it causes me, so I have to take senna to help keep my bowels moving when I take Avinza or Kadian.

Good luck with your pain relief. I know it isn't easy dealing with pain daily.
