I've been on ambien for several months. I take about two a week. I sit in my recliner and lean back to sleep most nights. When the pain subsides in my legs and joints I lean over on the sofa and sleep for a couple of hours. This is my ritual for sleep. I don't understand when you lay down why the pain starts up. But when I'm sitting up and sleeping the pain is lots better. hang in there. Have you tried pain management? I go about once a year now. They have new drugs or techniques to try. Hope you find help soon because I know if you don't sleep you can't function the next day.

I've been using a product called Rest and Restore made by Nutri Elements. My doctor wanted to put me on Ambien, but I asked if I could try the Rest and Restore because it's a natural based product. It's been helping me to stay sleep longer without waking up constantly throughout the night. I am still not waking up totally refreshed though, but I've only been on it for a week so time will tell. I can't wait for the day I wake up totally refreshed from sleeping!!! Best Wishes to you.

I have been using Xyrem, (sodium oxybate) for 6 years now and without side effects it's been giving me the restorative, deep sleep we can't get on our own. It is prescribed by my sleep specialist, a psychiatrist.
The FDA approves this for narcolepsy use but not for fibro. I use it off label, as it is called. It gives me stage 3 & 4 sleep and heals me up from the day before. It's been my lifesaver.

Thanks Abotsd. If the Rest and Restore doesn't get me into deep sleep I'm gonna ask my doctor about it. So far it seems to be helping with my wakefulness. In the past I was waking up 8-10 times or more per night and some nights I would just be up for hours at a time. Now I am only waking up once and that's to use the washroom, but my doctor doesn't want me waking up at all. The dosage amount says three pills per night, but so far I have been taking two pills per night. I will slowly up my dosage to three. Whenever I start a new supplement I gradually work my way up to the full dosage.

I took Lunesta once and it tasted AWFUL!! Like a heard of buffalo ran through my mouth all night...each one taking a $#!* in my mouth!! LOL Also tried Ambien, the first few nights I had terrible hallucinations, but after that first initial few days it was OK. They say its habit forming which to me is a crock! Hope it helps you!

I use chamomile tea for sleep (with a tiny bit of lemon balm or lavender), and I findt hat really helps me relax. Chamomile is good for muscles, too, relaxes them. You can use loose chamoile in a hot bath as a muscle soak, with a bit of hops, too. (Also good for sleep tea.)
I like to use muscle rubs that have menthol or peppermint. I like Peaceful MOuntain products---get them at Whole Foods---can't think what else can help. Wait! ALFALFA TEA. Yes, I know, it is cow food, but alfalfa tea helps with nerve pain, and I think it may also aid neuromuscular, and the chlorophyll helps the body kick out toxins. I mix it with sage or green tea because alfalfa tea tastes awful awful awful---but if I skip it, I do miss it. Hope this helps! And may we ALL SLEEP DEEP AND WONDERFUL!
