Sensitivity....

Hi all:

What is this about? I had a pretty stressful day at work on Thursday...after work I had to do some grocery shopping. I go to this funky grocery store across from my office - they were playing jazz over their speaker system. It was alittle too loud, and I started feeling stressed out. I was ready to ditch my cart and run for it at one point. Checked out before I was done - got to my car and took some meclazine (gets the dizziness in check). By the time I got home I had to sit without moving my head, and it took a couple of hours to get the dizziness under control.

Stress....I don't seem to handle it well. Loud noises....I don't seem to handle them well. Even visual stuff....my phone at work has a little red light in the corner....if I have any messages, it blinks red. I have a little piece of heavy cardboard with tape on the back. If I have a message and I can't handle it right away, I cover the blinking red light so I don't see it. The blinking really gets on my nerves.

I've had problems with alot of this stuff for a long time. Noise sensitivity. Visual sensitivity. Prone towards dizziness. Is this a fibro thing, or what?

Thanks for your input!

Happy Saturday!

" Noise and photo sensitivity are huge for me! I thought I was going crazy. Those are the first symptoms that showed up for me, along with the headaches.
Repetitive noises are so painful and lighting will give me an instant migraine. "

" Wow, alot of us are in the same boat. Makes me feel better.

I've had a couple of bad dizzy issues lately, and I was starting to wonder if what was going on was migranes, or even MS. Guess I can be prone towards being a hypochondriac when I don't understand what's going on with my body.

So, turn down the lights, turn down the volume, and lets live our lives! Certainly easier said than done! At least we are not alone in this mess.

Blessings,

Jan "

" I never considered this a Fibro thing before, but holy crap, yes! Visual clutter as well as more than one thing on at a time (TV, talking, Music) drives me insane. My mother is a special ed. teacher and she called it auditory figure ground. I can't filter. Every thing competes at the same level as if it were all right by my ear. I get sick to my stomach just typing about it, these scenes just cause such unbearable stress. I also get dizzy from the overload. "

" OMG wow and YES YES YES - for years I have been irritated and stressed out by these things also.

I never thought that other people may also be affected, and have never 'spoken'about it before. Hearing tv's from other rooms, too much noise. Trying to talk on the phone if there is any other noise or stimulation going on. The lights at work!!! The shredder etc etc I could go on!!! "

" Yes Jan, all of what you have identified and more. Are you sensitive to smell also? Our brains perceive these things as stressful or painful. I hate being in a large crowd when people are talking. I never understood why I hated shopping at the malls-it turns out the shiny floors can bother us as well. "

" Yes, definitely FM is part of the cause if not the only cause. I've read about it again and again.

It's not just sound and light but also pressure change/weather which affect me most. Also crowds. "

" I never really put it all together, but I get most of these symptoms as well. When I go home to visit my mom, it's overwhelming b./c everything is so loud....especially when my 5 yr. nephew is added to the mix. I try my best to be socialable and hide the anxiety. But the thing that really drives me crazy is the blinking message lights...I thought it was just a hang-up of mine, but maybe it is all a part of the fibro. "

" Jan the noise from that oriental woman in the office that talks out loud to herself all day used ti drive me nuts. She just yells stuff out all day long, I wanted to duck tape her mouth shut sometimes.

I also get real bad sensitivity to fragrances and chemicals so between that the noise and the lights flashing or not it is sensory overload.

Hope that you feel better soon ♥ "

" During a flare, I do get noise sensitive, suddenly can't stand loud noises or lots of yammering people all at once. Going to a movie just shoots my nerves for a week! "

" I dearly love my family and the get togethers we have with my sisters, their husbands, and their children but now I realize why I get so anxious and need to leave. All of the kids are teenagers but two of them and they're 4 & 3. I LOVE the little boys but they wear me out and I felt so guilty about it.

Going anywhere on a weekend is out because of the crowds and noise. Can't remember the last time I went to a movie. I really just thought I was a homebody but I guess it was more about preserving my sanity. "
