What has worked for pain in hands?

I often get pain in my neck, shoulders and upper back, but find I can tolerate that better then most pains. But the worse one for me is when it hits my hands. It is excruciating!!! For me it is usually right where all your tendons and ligaments are on the back of the hand between the knuckes to the wrist area. I have found some heat helps keep my mind off it, but it doesnt really alleviate it..I have not found any solution to get the edge off of this one. It has awakened me from my sleep several times.

I have found some spandex fingerless gloves that if I wear them, they do help to keep this from occuring as much as it use to. Anyone have a help for this?
thanks

" Hi Foxie, this sounds a lot like what I get especially at night when I'm sleeping. I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrom. I'm not surprised that the spandex gloves are helping a little but you might want to try using hand splints. That's what I use at night (and sometimes during the day). They keep your hands from bending which is causing the pain. With carpal tunnel syndrome, when you bend your hand, you are pinching the nerve that runs through your wrist and into each joint (as far as I can understand). Anyways, you might want to give the splints a try and once you have those on, use any kind of over the counter pain relievers. It should help. "
