I often get pain in my neck, shoulders and upper back, but find I can tolerate that better then most pains. But the worse one for me is when it hits my hands. It is excruciating!!! For me it is usually right where all your tendons and ligaments are on the back of the hand between the knuckes to the wrist area. I have found some heat helps keep my mind off it, but it doesnt really alleviate it..I have not found any solution to get the edge off of this one. It has awakened me from my sleep several times.
I have found some spandex fingerless gloves that if I wear them, they do help to keep this from occuring as much as it use to. Anyone have a help for this? thanks Posted on 11/07/09, 03:11 am |

Stretching and shoulder exercises help me a lot. I also take Boswellia for pain and it literally removes that constant, nagging, sometimes screaming pain-for-no-reason.

I take low dose Naltrexone 5mgs and Acetyl L-Carnitine powder (3x a day). Acetyl L-Carnitine rated better than Lyrica, Cymbalta and Tramacet by about 5% points. It was a supplement that you could buy in the store but now it's by RX only. It also works for weight loss.
Have you been checked for Arthritis or Ankylosing Spondylitis? I have negative arthritis and have it, although I tested negative for Rheumatoid Arthritis. My doctor did the Patrick's Test as well as a few other things for the Arthritis and waiting to go to a Rheumy to get checked for AS. I would think alternating ice and heat would be better than just heat alone. Voltaren emugel cream (or pills) may work or even Xylocaine (which contains Lidocaine). My newest treatment is that I get the Lidocaine injected into my sacroiliac area weekly. I'll bring up a past post which contains the tender point charted areas for both Fibro and Ankylosing Spondylitis.

My hand pain is the nerve pain, not related to arthritis. I also have it in my feet really bad. The only things that helps me is Nuerontin.

i had horid nerve pain in both hands, finially i went to a nerologist who sent me to a sugreon, i had to get a bilateral carpel tunnel, first one then the other, it relived the hand pain, the surgeon did a good job. maybe you have carpel tunnel. i wore the braces for years, finially it caught up with me. good luck.

Thanks but I am pretty sure its fibro. I had carpal done on one wrist, years ago. I havent had to have it repeated so I was quite fortunate. This is exactly where the ligs and tendons are in the back of the hands, not the joints. Ive had my share of fibro flareups but this is so very painful.
I do know that when I was on the computer for work, doing lost of repetitive data entry, I hurt quite a bit, and stated taking calcium/mag supplements..took care of that. But that was a different animal.

there are exercises for the hands. stand next to the wall, in profile, putyour hand, the palm down, on the wall to the right of you and try turning your body front as much as you can. we do this in sr. aerobics. and my son, a dj does it too as his hands hurt sometimes. we overuse them very easily. i also take oxycontin for pain. and i take more when i have to. just can't tolerate more pain after so many years of it. 25+.

I haven't heard of fibro affecting the hands like that. (I also have fibro.) Are you sure you don't have arthritis in addition to fibro? At 49 years of age, many people do. I am 37 and I have arthritis! I take Mobic for arthritis. I agree with the poster who recommended oxycodone or some other general pain relieving drug (perhaps hydrocodone) for these flare-ups. You might also want to try Kleiser hand and arm therapy, or something similar.
