Sleep Apnea nd white blood cell count questions

The Dr. wants me to go get a sleep study and I keep putting it off. I don't know why. I'm afraid they arenot going to see anything on that day even though I have a few sleep disorders it doesn't happen every night and knowing my luck nothing will happen when I go over there. I don't think I will be able to get to sleep either. I have a hard enough time with it but being somewhere else Im afraid I wont fall asleep and that misses the point. As far as sleep apnea I don't think I have this every night. At least it doesn't wake me up. Is that possible. I know I have it though because every now and again I will wake up gasping or not breathing over and over again in one single night. Its miserable! Every time I start to fall a sleep I wake right up not breathing.
Also, I have a question about fevers. I have never had fevers before. Then about 8 months ago now I have a fever usually around 99 every day and with the slightest exertion (like taking a shower even in cold water)can spike up to 101 or more. My normal temp is usually around 96 or 97. Its really low. Do you guys think this is normal? I had blood tests done awhile ago and it showed a high white blood cell count but they cant find an infection in me anywhere and it doesnt go away with antibiotics. If it does it will only be gone for a few days. Sometimes my blood test will show it elevated and then turn around and be normal. It will go back and forth like that. That has been happening now for a year and a half. I ended up in an ambulance one night for severe stomach pain and stayed in the hospital for a couple of days. They did all kinds of tests but other than a high white blood cell count they couldnt find anything. Does any one know whats going on with me? Has anyone had this happen to them? Thanks for any advise. Posted on 10/23/09, 02:10 pm |

Hi...what Types of tests did they run on you while in the Hospital ? a Fever + a high white blood cell count of course indicates that the Body is Fighting "Something"...did they do any type of Exploratory tests on you ? within your digestive tract ?
I would keep Pushing for them to Keep looking...GL and will watch for Updates !!

Hi,
I understand how you feel about going to sleep lab. I just recently went thinking they were not going to find anything wrong. I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea. I felt just like you do, it didn't happen all the time or I did not wake up all the time, etc. I discovered that I my body was waking up even though I wasn't waking up consciously. They told me I was waking up an average of 19 times per hour. I didn't even know it. I would suggest that you go to sleep lab. You will eventually fall asleep. Even if it's only for a few hours that you sleep, they will be able to tell if there is anything wrong. It will be ok. :) It is better to find out and not always worry. If you do have a sleep disorder, they will be able to do something for it and you will feel better. If you don't, then you will know for sure. Be pro-active with your health when you can. I also often run a low grade fever and my body temp is usually around 97.1 or 97.4. I tend to run a low grade fever when I'm having a flare-up or a rough time. I try to get more rest during that time. Currently I am having a flare-up now with my fibro and am running a low grade fever. Mine usually passes after a few days of rest. Try to rest if you can. Hope this helps. If you have more questions on the sleep lab, I can give you more details, etc. if you want to message me. I was really not wanting to go! But now I am glad that I did. I didn't even realize that I had a problem so you never know. Feel better! :)

Thanks everyone for your reply. Im not sure what tests they did. I was there for a couple of days and they wouldnt let me go until they found something but they never did. She just said they ran everything they think to run and brought in some speciality Dr's to talk to me but nothing acme of it. Then at the Dr's office more tests were ran but not sure which ones. I did try looking them up once on the internet but its so hard to find anything on the web that I can understand. My cardiologist found some tests though that were abnormal and he was really worried about me and made me come in once a week. I dont see him anymore though. Maybe I will try and find those tests and post them on here.

i know it's scary, but a sleep study is crucial. without good and restorative sleep we don't recover. please be brave. have the study. find a sleep specialist. i've been using xyrem for over three years and it gives me a wonderful, deep sleep with my cpap. i was also afraid of the sleep study. my drs. insisted and it has been the starting point of my recovery efforts.
