Does anyone have any ways to make money?

I had to quit my job, as a nurse aide (which is the millionth job I've loved and couldn't keep due to Fibro .....RRRRRR). The bills are overflowing, my car is going to get taken, my meds are costing us over $100/ month (&we have decent insurance) and we can bearly feed my son let alone me and my husband. I just turned in my Disability app yesterday which I know will likely take years even if I do get approved.

What can I do to help my family?

" Im sorry you are going thru this , the short answer is that I just dont know . Im a single mom (five kids at home), no insurance and we are scraping by on my part time job ( about 100 a week) and help from the county ( ie food stamps and medical care ) I used to work full time and had wonderful insurance , that was before fibro...I also got a rent voucher for parents with disabilities and that helps , it pays half my rent. I qualify for that , but not disability pay..hmmm anyway , this info may not be helpful for you but wanted you to know you are not alone. I would , if I were you , check out what your county may be able to do to help you , you may nto qualify as hubby is working but you never know...they may be able to provide health insurance to act as secondary to what you have , pick up co-pays and scripts ( mine does) and check out help with rent or mortgage , doesnt hurt to ask , I hated the idea at first as i am very independent , but its a Godsend , good luck...Also , I looked a while to find the job I have ( cashier ) my boss lets me sit, stand , or walk around as needed , and I can work as many or as few hours as Im able without penalty...its a small company , maybe look for something liek that , I was in nursing too, hard to let that go...maybe find something less demanding that will bring in some income even if u cant match what you used to make...so sorry to see another of us , lose what was once our life and livelihood...hugs "

" Thanks allthatmatters!
Also thanks to sigblue for the hug!

You both have stories for me to draw strength from. I do need to try to find an understanding boss at a part time job. A small family-like business is a great idea. I'm also going to look into local and state grants.

Thanks so much both of you! "

" SEE IF YOU CAN GET FOOD STAMPS AND MED-I-CAL UNTIL YOU GET EVERYTHING STRAIGHTEND OUT WITH MEDICARE. HOPEFULLY IT WON'T TAKE AS LONG AS YOU THINK IT WILL. I DON'T REMEMBER IT TAKING ME THAT LONG SO LETS KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED THAT IT HAPPENS REALLY QUICK. TAKE CARE. "

" I am sorry to hear whats happening to you, its a late post . As I am reading each page and every new post. New to this sight.

I hope things are better for you now. If not there are serveral things that may help. I like many others found them the hard way.

what allthatma post is good, you can also ask your local church for some help in food and cash. There are also many places that offer food like food banks. Usually if you are able to get food stamps they can tell you of these places. As well as offer a way to get medical help while you wait .

Hope this helps, and things are getting better for you. Hugs "

" Are you still around Sarah? Any luck with the disability? When I called the 800 number to talk to someone about SS disability the woman I talked to said that I might qualify for SSI benefits while I was waiting for my disability claim to be processed. I think she said it was as much as $1500 a month. You should ask about that. Unfortunately my husband earned just over the maximum amount and we didn't qualify but I eventually was approved for disability. I ended up having to hire a lawyer but it was the best thing I could have done. "

" I am now getting disability and I also get money for my son because I'm on disability. But the wait was so long all of our bills are at least 3 months behind and we are in a mountain of debt. We got my first payment a few weeks ago and it went to bills then my son's payment came and the same thing happened. We are still barely scratching by. We had to sell my car to make rent! Hopefully when my next payment comes we'll have something left over for food and diapers. "
