has anyone ever heard that cortisol may be the cause of fibro? if so, have you done anything to correct your cortisol function and did it help at all? i hear things like this and think that there ought to be a cure (if it's that simple), but then so many people are still hurting, so it's very confusing to me. i've been trying holistic treatment that had helped at one time, but when i scaled back on the supplements, the pain and fatigue came back. just curious if others have had this same experience.

Soulsister...I had my 2nd neuro to tell me that when my bloodtests came back, that my "carnatine" levels were extremely low...as in almost none at all. I was told that this could cause muscle spasms & pain. So, I started taking "Carnatine Supplements" as directed, but never did notice any difference at all, so I stopped taking them.
As far as cortisol....I was never told anything about my "cortisol levels." I'm not even sure what it's function is...but I'll research it. Isn't "cortisol" the chemical that makes us accumulate fat in the middle section? Maybe I'm confusing this with something else, but was thinking of the "Cortisol Dietary" supplement. Seems like I remember reading something about cortisol in my new book by Devin Starlanyl. I'll look back through it and post back with anything I find. ~tj

HI SOUL SISTER: TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, I NEVER THOUGHT OF CHECKING MY CORTISOL LEVEL BUT I'M SURE IT'S ALL OUT OF WHACK. I WILL ASK MY DOCTOR IN MAY TO CHECK THAT FOR ME. HAVE YOU HAD YOURS CHECKED YET AND IF SO, WHAT WAS THE RESULT? WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT, FIBROMYALGIA IS VERY COMPLICATED AND THERE ARE SO MANY SYMPTOMS THAT GOES WITH IT. THE ONLY BAD THING IS THAT DOCTORS START TO BLAME EVERYTHING ON IT AND THEN THEY MISS A SERIOUS PROBLEM.

In 1991 I had an adrenalectomy. On the right kidney my adrenal gland had produced a tumor. byt the time I had surgery it was a big as a basketball. They removed it and then my cortisol was checked and checked. 18 years later I still go have my blood work done every 6 months and that is one of the test that is done. It has been normal. I was diagnosed with fibro after the tumor, If I can remember, 1994. No One mentioned cortisol. I do know when the doctor (the county workmans comp quack) gave me cortisone for my back pain, my fibro did not bother me at all. he gave me so much, he threw my levels off and my endocrinologist had a fit. Sorry, rambling. I am going to ask this question when I see him.
