I am new to the whole support group thing. My middle (step) son has FAS. I have been the only mother he knows so i am the one who is dealing with his episodes and trying to get him help. It is very hard at times, I just want to give up, but I know I gave myself a vow that i would never put my kids through any more pain then have already endured. SO that is why I am here to get support and some good advice on FAS. My son throws tantrums, and they are escalating worse and worse. To where i am afraid one of these days he is going to hurt himself or someone. What are some suggestions that other parents or caretakers have on this issue in whole. I would greatly appreciate it . Thanks!

I am wondering how old your son is. My daughter (not my bio either)also has FAS. She is now 16. I took her in when she was 2. I made a commitment to keep her so that she wouldn't be passed around anymore. I had no idea at the time what I was in for. The commitment is the only thing that made me keep her at times. I know how you feel. It can get pretty tough. Her mood swings were horrible. Since she has been on Risperdal she has been a different person. The good news is that she has come along way and does pretty well. The mood swings are only slight and manageable. She is in reg classes with a resource teacher. She is very high functioning. Hang in there. Sometimes you have to try a lot of different things, (behavior mod, meds, etc.) before you see some positive changes. He is lucky to have you. Take some time for yourself and learn to detach just a little when you hit a rough spot. Give yourself a hug, you are special. Marcie

He is 8 years old. We go for a medication evaluation on the 23rd. Although I keep getting calls from his school that he is having a rough day....everyday. Do you have any suggestions on some behavior mod that have worked for you, because the ones I have been trying are not working. Thanks Marcie!!!
