My 5 year old gd is in kindergarden this year. She seems to love school but I can not get this child to do anything in the mornings. She went to school last year to pre-K and the problem was starting then but is much worse this year. Every day it is a battle to get her dressed, fed and ready to catch the bus on time. By the time I have her out to the bus stop I am exhausted and upset. She seems to have completely forgotten everything by the time we get to the bus stop one block away. I've tried everything I can think of to get her moving in the mornings but she just won't do anything I ask. This is the morning problem.

Afternoons are really bad too. She is very hyper then. She won't listen to me despite knowing the consequences of her behaviour. She has screaming fits, rages on her worst days. I'm sure the neighbors think I am killing her. I love this child with all my heart and would do anything to make her life run smoother if I could. This is making our relationship strained and I don't want that for us. It's like I can't reach her. She knows the rules but she doesn't seem to care. Maybe she can't help how she acts. I know this is common with FASD. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a child motivated to comply with simple things in the morning?

She has been dx with ADHD, ODD, anxiety and depression. The doctor said FASD/FAE symptoms overlap so I don't know what to do. She isn't on meds for those yet so I know it's not meds making her behaviour this way. She sleeps a lot so I know she isn't tired. Help me please if you can.

" Is she under the care of Paediatrician or anything like that at all - having regular follow ups? "

" I think I would schedule an appt with her ped to get an evaluation to make sure there isn't something medical going on, while I was there I would also ask about a mild med to help her relax, perhaps she isn't sleeping well at night and so is wired in the daytime.

Also start a ritual at night preparing for school the next day by laying out her outfit, sitting her shoes & socks out ,prepare her book bag and sit it out making a big deal about it. Try to get her excited about school the next day perhaps even offering a special breakfast just make sure it is high protein they need that protein to help with the control.

JMHO, this is what I do with my gd. "
