Behavior issues..FAS or ADHD???

Hi everyone,

I need to ask some questions. 18 months ago I took guardianship of my then 8 yr (now 10 yr old) gd. She has extreme behavior issues in her last enviroment but not so much here but I want to understand if I can.

Background on Missy:

Born prematurely at 8 months - 4lbs 2 oz
Born with fetal alcohol syndrome not sure what level as I can't get her med records from back then.
DXD with ADHD when she was around 5, put on meds at about 5-6.
Was taking Adderall XR when she came to live with us that was not working, changed to Straterra about 2 months after getting here which seems to be working well. We started with 25 mg and now she is on 35 mg per day.

I want to understand if I can what behaviors are from the FAS and what are attributed to ADHD, can anyone give me any info????

Thanks, Helen

" hello, I have an 18 yr old daughter & I believe she has FAS. She had no prenatal care and little background. She has none of the physical characteristics but has many of the behavioral traits. She's been diagnosed as ADHD & bipolar. I only learned about FAE/FAS about 3 yrs ago.
When I asked her psychiatrist about it, He said the meds she takes are the same ones used with FAE. The adoption agency had no more information and was pretty defensive when I asked them about the possibility of it.
Since your daughter is approaching adolescence I'd love to share experience, support and whatever else I can.
Our life with my daughter has been chaos, but I'd do it all over again. "

" Thank you so much for replying to my post, I'm going nuts here!!, LOL Missy does not have the facial characteristics of FAS either, she has a perfectly normal little face but she is definitly a trying little thing.

I've asked her therapist about the difference and she says there are so many of the behaviors that are attributed to both conditions it would be hard to attribute one condition or the other.

I also have no information from the hospital on the severity of the condition or anything else related to her premature birth so it's kinda like flying blind here. The adoptive's don't know anything, didn't ask anything, didn't ask for records when they adopted her, didn't think it was necessary, boy do I wish I had those records now.

I would love to have any advice or tips you can give me to deal with this upcoming adventure into maturity, lol.

You can email me directly at lady.realtor@earthlink.net, just put FAS or ADHD in the subject line so I'll know it is you.

Thanks again,
Helen "

" I know you guys are dealing with your children, but my boyfriend of 10 years has just been diagnosed with pFAS at age 27. I am interested in your experinences as people dealing with older people with FAS. If you wouldn't mind sharing you can e-mail me at julia_holman@hotmail.com As you said above, you could enter FAS in the subject line so I can easily identify the e-mail. Thank You. "
