Hi there, unfortuanatly there doesn't seem to be that much activity here......
But if there is anyone with girls with FAE/FAS i would really like to ask some questions. My daughter is 9yrs old and inspite of the moods an angel. But I would like to find out how other moms deal with the emotions of a growing little hormonal girl. Posted on 05/01/09, 09:05 am |

Hello, I'm new her also. I have an 18 yr. old adopted daughter. I believe she is affected by FAE/FAS, but I didn't figure it out until about 3 yr ago. Unfortunately for us it's been incredibly difficult. She was always very difficult, but when she got into middle school it really exploded. At the time I couldn't find much information on this except for very young children and it was'nt much help.
I'm glad people are starting to talk about older kids. I'd love to share our experience and support Nancy

i have a friend named gina and she is 23 years old and she has FAS and she was very hormonal and moody, but she is now very....what's the word.....well she is quite normal, infact she has more patience then i do and more then some of the other people i know too. She is very smart and very well spoken, if you would like to speak to her, i could ask her to give you a call. just leave me your number. queenb98125

Hello,Thanks so much for responding. Nancy I would love to share experiences and queenb it would be great to communicate with Gina via email as I am in Australia. It is encouraging to hear that there is hope and I am not alone. Surreal, I do not know of other support groups, when my little girl was younger there used to be one in Texas somewhere, but I cant seem to find them anymore. But I found the solution with a baby is stimulation and music. when they are still small it is easier to "mold" them and give them there basic foundation. Its the older they get that the memory loss and emotions go wild. But loads of loves and hugs. Until my little girl was about 7yrs ,she never thought there was anything wrong with her. She was kind, loving, caring, sensitive. All the things that really mattered in life. But it is a tough road. Very frustrating. But somehow rewarding.
Look forward to hearing more. Love chani

Do you find that you are scared for the future of a child with FAS, or is that normal feeling for anyone with a child with special needs. Also wondering how they diagnose FAS if you have adopted a child without maternal consumption being confirmed. I see your in Australia, cant find a support group in NZ yet. Too many sheep!

Hi surreal
I do fear for her, especially when I see her get worse, or teased. For me the most important is keeping her emotionally safe. We moved to Australia from South Africa and I must say that I am surprised that there is so little support. I have read your other post and you need to forgive yourself on order to help your precious little boy. You yourself needs to get into a safe place. If you want you could email me rather and we could get onto chat or Facebook chat. there is so much we could chat about. But please dont lose heart. Love chani

Chani,
Yes, my gd has FAE, no facial abnomalities as you can see from the picture but several of the other behaviors. It's been a wild ride and it's just beginning, LOL
