" Hi, my adopted daughter is 18 and also has many of the same problems. She steals, lies, has been very sexually active. She got herself an abortion when she was seventeen without us knowing about it. It is amazing to hear how she manipulates and believes she is the victim in every situation. We also had no background and she had no prenatal care.
She is very intelligent, and is beautiful which makes things even worse.
I think that will graduate from High School next month, and we're hoping that she will go to community college in the fall.
I know what you are going through, and can't imagine what it would be like if she had children.
Our life has been chaotic for years and it's really wearing on us.
I think it will continue to be so for years.
She takes strattera and lamictal, and I she and I think the lamictal has helped. Her actual diagnosis is bipolar though I don't believe it. Her psychiatrist said we'll never really know and that these medications are used for FAE/FAS. I thought about it alot, and I think he was telling me that it wouldn't be helpful for her to be labeled this way. She is already very sensitive about being adopted, and biracial and having to take meds.
The more I read the more I know she has this condition.
I haven't brought the school into it. She hates for me to have any contact with her teachers and councellors and she hates when they contact her. Luckily her run-ins at school have been minimal, but the police have been to our house 3 times. She's been hospitalized twice but so far not this year! I don't think I'll ever talk to her about this because she be angry and turn it into being a victim again.
It helps to talk with friends about it, it's funny some times my friends can't even comprehend what goes on it's so absurd. I use a lot of dark humor and try to laugh a lot. I try to be careful about not burdening any one friend or family member too much because it just never ends. I don't want then to stop talking to me.
I also have faith in God and get a lot of help and answers from prayer. We always remind ourselves to live one day at a time.
I love my daughter and it hurts to see her struggle with this. I think her pain is also great "
