How do you know what is normal for odours or feelings or discharge..
I've been noticeing an increase in discarge lately and been reading about normal vaginal 'activity' and it says it can increase at this time and that time, and for this reason and its normal, or every woman has a natural smell, and it can change at this time or this time and it doesnt mean infection..Im going crazy with trying to know if everything is ok down there with multiple unneeded visits to the doctor..How do you guys know everything is ok when something changes down there.. I think I am familiar with myself but how do you familiarize yourself with..yourself lol when its changing all the time.. Posted on 06/28/09, 06:06 pm |

maybe pop along to the docs and get them to give you a few tests. Discharge can often come and go depending on many factors.

Discharge is normal and (speaking as a guy) unique to each woman but pleasant and attractive.
If you think you are smelling funky or itchy or in pain, it's time to see a physician and see whats going on

Well I don't know about any of you but the words "pleasant and attractive" are not the first words I think of to describe this ... obviously coming from someone who doesn't have to deal with it.
Discharge can be for many reasons - one of the doctors on here (the dark headed lady) wrote an article about just this topic. If you message her I'm sure she will forward it to you.

So, I don't really have anything helpful to tell you, but I can tell you I feel for you! I can't even tell you how many times I've been in the doctor thinking there was something wrong with my vagina, and not once has there every actually been a problem. All I can say, is vagina's are very complicated things! hehe Unless, I have burning, itching, or questionable bumps, I trust that my annual physicals are the only visits I should take to the OB-GYN. Whether or not that's a good idea or not, I don't know, but I feel for ya (:

if you put "my cervix" in google search, you will see, age 25 entire cycle(should be first option) click on that, and you will be able to see the cervix and the kind of discharge you can expect!

there are 2 types of normal discharge that women have: clear watery and whitish.
When u are ovulating/fertile- you have clear discharcge that stretches over an inch. when ur not ovuating, its whitish and doesnt strech. If ur noticing greenish discharge, it means theres infection. it should not be itchy as well and foul smelling

I recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. http://www.ovusoft.com/ I went to a class that used this book and the teacher demonstrated healthy cervical fluid with lotion (opaque, milky) and a personal lubricant (clear and stretchy, like egg whites). Medicines can change the way your fluid smells, so can diet and other health issues.
I benefited more than I can express from following my cycle and taking my basal body temperature every morning for several months. I learned clearly when my cervical fluid was healthy (all the time) and was able to identify when, in the past, it had been something to see a doc about (when I was still trying hopelessly to be straight and my boyfriend gave me an std)...I got chlamydia and a urinary track infection. Thank goodness that these were treatable with sulfa drugs and antibiotics and I had no permanent damage to my fertility. If you itch, if the color is yellow or green, if you hurt, if it smells like something died...get to a doctor quick! I also saw an over the counter cervical fluid test kit for home testing of many of the common vaginal infections. Check your local pharmacy. Let us know if you're alright. Happy self discovery and personal empowerment. RW
