Hi I'm Linda K. I am a member of the FM group too. I stumbled across this group and did some reading of the discussions and have already learned alot.
Since I have had my Fatty liver under control until just recently, I never gave it much thought. Now I understand what the hot flashes (not in menopause) are coming from. They have started to subside now that (hopefully) getting it back under control. I know I am going to learn alot from you. Nice to meet you. Posted on 05/22/09, 10:05 pm |

Hi, Paindora, I don't know if I am typical but to control my fatty liver I have to control my Trigs. I can never get them down to normal but if I can get them to 190 the liver will start to improve.
The problem is I have to take a statin to control my chol. and the lopid I take for my Trigs. are not a good combination according to my Dr. Seems there is an increased chance of Rhabdomyolosis. With that in mind, my Dr. decided to take me off the lopid and put me on Trilipix for the trigs. Made my liver very unhappy and all the liver enzymes went up. Now I am back on the lopid and hope the next check of the enzymes, I will hear everything is improving. Thanks for your interest. I hope you found something of some help. I am trying to lose some weight. Thanks to your group, I learned that losing weight too fast is very unwise. Hope everyone's tests turn out good next time. hugs, Linda K

Hi, I'm new here. Scared to death as I was recently diagnosed with diabetes type 2 and fatty tissue liver disease.
My GI has me on Actos 15 mg and Metformin (sp?). He put me on Crestor 5 mg b'cuz my cholesterol was 290. The 'good' cholesterol was 'bad' and my triglicerides were through the roof. Dr. had me take blood tests every 3 weeks and finally my trigs & chol were normal. But, I couldn't afford Actos so I stopped. The GI dr. told me the fatty liver tissue will not reverse...but by keeping my weight down (right!) and staying on a strict diet this would stop further damage. I lost 30 lbs over the holidays just by my diet alone...then came the holiday season Nov. Dec. and I gained all my weight back. Had a total hip replacement in Jan '09 so exercise is limited. After reading the threads here and also reading up on diabetes I'm truly scared. Guess its a good thing I came here as I am 'scared straight'. Thanks for your ears.

Hi Linda and Swandy,
Welcome to our group. It's good that we have each other to learn information from or just vent about our situations. I have fatty infiltration of the liver and my liver enzymes also went really high. It's hard to pick apart what is the cause of the fatty liver and high enzymes, it gets so confusing sometimes! I had high cholesterol, triglycerides and am obese, those can all be responsible for increased enzymes and fatty liver. I was on a lot of meds that can be hard on the liver. Once my enzymes went up I was taken off methotrexate (RA), Zocor (high cholesterol), acetaminophen, and pain killers with acetaminophen like Darvocet. I was told to lose weight, but not more than 1 to 2 lbs a week, cut out fat from my diet, little or no drinking of alcohol and probably more I can't remember right now. I am on a lot of medication for a whole boat load of medical problems so many times the liver gets pushed to the back burner. It has been a little over a year that I stopped taking methotrexate, Zocor and use as little acetaminophin as possible and my enzymes are almost back to normal. I also was told to take the Milk Thistle to help repair the liver - a lot of GI docs reccomend it to their patients - my doc told me this. I was told that a fatty liver can be healed by following the steps in the paragraph above. I haven't been able to do all the things I should like losing weight, but hopefully that will change in the not too distant future. hugs jilly

Swandy, I don't think your doc is right about not being able to get rid of fatty liver. Everything I read says you can - the liver can completely regenerate itself in 8 years from only 25% of a liver in the case of accidental severing, if you do the right things. The problem is trying to get rid of the trigger. I can't get off the methx I have tried, so I am really stuck. I even lost the weight and exercise 6 days a week. Don't even take antihistamines, which can raise ALT.
I was also told by a doc that you can't restore calcium to your bones if you become oestopenic. It took one year of calcium and hard exercise to recover. 6 weeks for my foot to develop severe oestoporous from not walking on it. Still waiting on the improvement. The problem with the liver, is that it rarely shouts at you for attention! It is easier to take my needle and ignore the liver tests, cause even when it hurts it isn't too bad. So I think I am exchanging quantity of life for quality. If you find out what is wrong, you can improve. I guess it depends on what your source is, and how much you want it. I wanted it really bad, but couldn't stand the RA pain. When I take my 2 RA drugs I am 99% normal. To slip back to being unable to move is too much. I had hot flashes for 5 years - thought it was menopause. Now wondering if it is liver issue? I got it under control by taking Wellbutrin 1/4 tab - an antidepressant. Turned out it was a real bio-chemical pathway! Not well known. Now I am going to look into this liver connection issue. Thanks
