My Teen daughter has cancer that won't quit

I'm new at this care taking and parenting a child with cancer. My mother passed away three years ago of multiple myeloma and I did do some care for her toward the end so I'm not unfamiliar to all the hospital visits and tests, but this time I think my heart is being ripped out. She is heading into her 3rd surgery. The prognosis is supposed to be good. She's a very healthy, positive child. She makes a huge statement and impact on people everywhere she goes but I don't want that to be her mission in life. I want her to be normal.

I guess I'm looking for support from this group. I get a lot of support in my community and friends but sometimes I feel alone in this.

" Of course you feel overwhelmed and frightened. But the fact that the doctors say the prognosis is good, that is a ray of hope to hang onto. Love and hugs to you. take it just "one day at a time." There are many wonderful people here for you. You are not alone. "

" thanks bsbrm1. I guess I'm just overly stressed. She's been sick for so long and this is surgery #3. the PET scan in December said everything was looking good. Just a little tumor in her lung. Then the other scan which was verified by blood markers and an MRI showed more, several too large to treat with radiation. I don't get support in this little community where I live because they believe I should only practice holistic medicine and other "herbs". Its just different when its your child. "

" Thank you for your responses... My daughter has papillary carcinoma which is a common cancer for adult women, not so much for kids. I think for kids its just really hard to get a handle on it. I'm staying tough. I have to. My ex-mother-in-law called me crying tonight. sigh... just so tired. the surgery is on wednesday. "

" It is hard as a parent to watch your child go through the sugeries, chemo, radiation and side effects from it all. I also feel like my heart is being ripped out. I hope you have found the support on this site and that your daughter has had success with her surgery. "
