New here and angry at this disease

Last December my brother was diagnosed with late stage leukemia and given 2-6 weeks to live. Then they bombarded him with a really potent treatment that works in 70% of patients and it did kill the cancer. He has been doing fine, feeling pretty good, putting on some weight.

Now he is back in because bone marrow test recently came back with cancer again. The cancer stayed away as long as he was on chemo.

Drs. are now looking at bone marrow transplant. Anyone here have experience with this procedure? How do they get the bone marrow from family members?

I hate this wicked disease. He also has a bleeding ulcer and has been throwing up blood. He lives in Florida and I live in Iowa which makes it harder. I dod plan to fly down shortly and spend whatever time I can with him.

Thank you for any thoughts and shared experiences.

" Hello, I don't have any personal experience or family experience with the process, but I worked for a blood & tissue bank for 10 years. My dept. received most of the calls from donors and interested citizens, so we had to know enough to do referrals to experts. The National Bone Marrow Registry was our go-to source in this case. They have a new name, and their web site is marrow.org. One of the documents there is a complete description of the whole process, including the actual donor experience, lots of illustrations, and easy to understand. Hope this helps...all the best to you. " I'm so sorry for you and your brother, that must be really rough. Iv never experienced bone marrow transplants so I have no advice on that. I just wanted to say be strong and try to give as much support as possible to him. As you already have. I hope everything works out good. Keep us posted. "
