My mother, brother and wife were headed yesterday for my brothers house in Arkansas.
We all were headed that way, the whole family. I got a call yesterday when I was getting ready to pay for my room online for the hotel. The carload with my Mom in it stopped at a gas station all the usual things at the stop. Bathroom break. While in the bathroom...my Mom starting screaming in pain from and enormous headache. You know where this is leading. They called 911 and the ambulance came. Being a retired nurse. She knew it wasn't good. She was still talking, could smile, so no stroke. Suddenly the ambulance during the drive to the hospital in Joplin, racing thru the streets going over 90 miles a hour my brother following knew... she died. They tried and tried to bring her back to no avail. I talked to her the night before on the phone she was excited about the trip. It had been a long time since we were all together other than this last 4th of July at my house. So glad we all had that time together. She knew that my sons case suddenly took a major turn for the better. She was thrilled to pieces about that! My son called her night before last and told her the good news. She knew we all were doing pretty good work wise. Most of the families jobs we have been fortunate none of us have to worry too much about layoffs, already survived thru those and things were looking so good. I just realized my daughters future baby born in either Jan. or Feb. will be the 1st baby to not have a personalized baby blanket made especially by my Mom. Crotcheting, knitting, scrapebooking...all were her hobbies and the way she showed her love to everyoone. Every neighbor or nursing friend that she worked with for over 35 yrs as a nurse always got a baby blanket...gorgeous colors...everyone of them different. Has to be over hundreds she has made. We called American Red Cross to see if my son could come home for the funeral. Went thru all the red tape. Answer was no. In military you can't have been in trouble to get to come home for funerals. Well, it has been only recently that he got it together and quit being so angry at life and the lies told by the ...? Fill in the blank for yourself. I try not to hate what a weakling that woman was for lying on him rather than sharing the blame for both of their infidelities to their spouses. Just one more thing though she has robbed him and me of. Having my son at his own grandmothers funeral. His last living grandparent. His spiritual advisor. We are handling her death fairly well..I guess. No one is lording over any one else about all the arrangements. We are all in agreement, this is hard and we need to make it the easiest as possible for all. Thank God! After my Dads death it was chaos for yrs. We were just now getting back into the swing of things and really getting over his death 10 yrs ago. We are all going tomorrow anyway for a get together. Mom wanted us to get back to having regular get togethers. My brother in Arkansas and me have been trying to get ones back to coming together. we are all older and havew health problems. I am probably the healthiest of all the older ones in the family. I think this will mean I will see alot of death in the next few years. Fun, fun, fun. Not my usual cheery self. Anyway...I think it is all been said... for now. Love you all! ENJOY YOUR FAMILIES WHILE YOU HAVE THEM! Rhea Posted on 11/28/08, 08:11 am |

Oh Rhea, I wish I was there with you, just to hold you and to listen to all the wonderful memories you have of your Mom. I know you loved her very much, and that she will always be with you no matter where you are or what you're doing, cause she's in your heart, and you have tons of beautiful snapshots in your mind of things you did both apart and together. Don't be afraid to talk with any and/or all of us about her. We would all love to hear about her and come to know her through your thoughts and memories of her. I know from personal experience it helps with the grieving and healing process to remember. And we want to be there for you Honey, just like you have been there for all of us. We love you so much! Lorie Ann
