Hello everyone. This is an amazing thing here. I am excited to be here and see I am not alone. It has been a rough road. Some stuff I am even afraid to talk about. I want to extend myself to everyone here. I am a paralegal's assistant. I am also a personal advocate. I have a loved one in a county jail for 9 months. I have alot of things I can help with. If anyone has questions I will always try to help. Mean while, I am reading as much as I can. I am thankful I found this site.

" Welcome!

I am sorry to hear of your loved one being in jail. We can all relate and never judge.

What state are you out of? I know the legal system is different in each state, so if a question does come up; just want to see if it's applicable or similar state to state. "

" Welcome, Shantanget.. I have only been here for a short while but have found it to be extremely helpful.

What is a personal advocate if you don't mind my asking? "

" I don't know what it is either. From what I have found, Wisconsin does not have prisoner's advocates. They say to use a guard as an advocate, which does not seem to be advantageous. Guards cannot be objective, and help the prisoners, or I would think their job would be in jeopardy. I looked online for a prisoner's advocate and that was all it said to do. Not going to ever think they would help. They can't. Too many rules, too much red tape, too much fear with the inmates afraid to talk to them because of possible retaliation.

There are no support groups in communities for families of prisoner's or people who love them. I checked. All we want is fairness, and also to be able to ask questions when we don't understand. All we want is to be able to see our people in prison and keep communicating openly. Seems that's a problem in many ways.

I would welcome the chance to be part of a support group. Maybe then we could understand more from all perspectives. "

" Thank you to all of you!!

Lets see.. I am out of Wisconsin, a personal advocate is defined as a person who acts as the right hand of an individule that has no voice based on circumstance disability, or the "SYSTEM" I advocate and help people work thru the legal BS. I help them find housing, jobs, transfers etc. I work with state county and federal resources to guide people and help them get answers. I work from home and I work for next to nothing right now.I do what I do to help others that dont know what to do. My training includes AODA, Non Tradition healing methods, AA, Marketing, and I will be attending school this fall to obtain my degree in paralegal work.
I do not care what state you are in. I will help you find the laws for your state. I have access to alot of info.
My hope is to start a Prisoner advocacy with my degree as well as pass laws for them and their families. Hang tight guys Someone is getting a ball rolling. The more i hear the more my fire is fueled.
I am tired of the abuse and i think they system doesnt work. There is a reason for it. I am out there cutting red tape dailey. I am going to shout till we are heard. okokok.. enough Shantangents.. I am reading everything guys and taking notes of needs. I am also using this site to support my emotional health. win win for all!

To all of you out there hold tightly!

" Have you thought of starting a message board for advacacy? There seems to be a big interest in it..It sounds like you would have alot to offer and people would have a place to go to vent on how horrible the system is and still have a place here to share their day to day struggles and challenges with having a loved one gone and out of their lives. "

" No I have not thought of the message board here. I am a little consumed with my case load presently and the stupid diasability that I was just diagnosed with. I will help if I can, but know if I start a message board right now I will be flooded past the milkyway. There is a huge need for what I do and I am seeing more and more here everyday just how big this problem is. My heart goes out to all of you and I to feel the pain so now I am here and this is my start. I am having a very difficult time with my ex being ripped outta my life. He is my best friend and i was diagnosed while he is there. I am alone and a mother of 2. I miss his support and I hate watching him go thru this, I am having some issues right now with our communication and developing plans to work around it. I will definately work on the message board idea in my goals and thank you very much for the suggestion. Right now I am very worried for his well being and I am very worried he could get worse. He is very very depressed and was when he was thrown in there. Hence the DUI. This man has been thru hell his divorce, forclosure, totaled car, house theft, Wife got pergnant with her cousins kid which is very jerry springer of her. While he was detained befor plea someone broke into his house and robbed him blind!! All his tools, equipment the stuff in the house down to the drapes. It has been an insane ride for him. no it wasnt the ex she has a restraining order on her. So I am being his bull dog and working with insurance companies for the house the theft his fines his legal issues and he isnt my only case. It has been hell!!! I hope the karma bus comes in and blows that whole ________ "
