Children of suicide

I think I've asked this before but can't remember. Has anyone heard of a suicide survivor group for those who were children when a parent killed themselves? Is there anyone on here who has suffered a loss like this when they were young ( I was 15). Just curious because I feel rare and alone in my issue.

Hi. I'm sorry to have taken so long to comment on this; I saw that you posted this, but never got a chance to reply.
A bit of background: my mom committed suicide when I was 17 (I'm 20 now). I have not heard of any groups just for those who were children when their parent committed suicide. I have gone to some Survivors of Suicide (SOS) groups though. I stopped going because most of the time, it was filled with parents who had lost a child; I've never found anyone who was a child. If you want to, feel free to add me as a friend; I can totally relate to feeling alone and rare in this. I hope this helps some..

Thanks very much for this reply, I wish I was 20 again and began dealing with all of this then rather than waiting until my late 30s. Maybe I can help you avoid some things I did or didn't do when I was your age.
I agree, most SOS groups are parents of kids or spouses who lost spouses. It is so hard to find someone who lost a parent at a young age but they must be out there right?

I would really appreciate any suggestions you have; while it sucks that you had to go through this experience, I'm glad to have found someone else I can talk to.... I did see that you added me as a friend, and I did accept you...

This is what I'm experiencing. My mum just left in April and I'm 38. I'm the oldest of three. My mum left behind 5 grandchildren. This is my first attempt at a support group. I'm glad to have read your post. I don't feel so alone, but I just hate that anyone else has to have experienced such a terrible lost. Hugs to you.

I was 9 when i lost my dad, my brother (who was 7) never got over it and it ruined his life, he suicided 6 months ago, he was 22. The hardest thing, i think, was going through school and people asking where your dad is. When i turned 18, that was a hard time coz i believe kids need a dad and i always wanted to have my dad but felt like he didn't want us.

my husband just committed suicide last june. Its been a little over a year. He left behind a daughter now 17 and a son, 14. Anyone have any advice to help me heal them and protect them. Kids have already posted mean things to them about their dad committing suicide. My son is in counseling, but my daughter refuses to go and neither want to talk about it.

My dad committed suicide last June. I was 19. I have a really hard time talking to friends about what really happened, so I decided to sign up for this website hoping to find solace in people who have experienced what I have. The truth is, I've only told one non family member the truth about how my dad died. I wish I had wise words for you about how to feel less alone but I'm just as lost as you are.

I was 15 as well when my father commited suicide. I am looking to start a support group for this, I don't know how you feel about it but if there isn't one you could attend in your area you could always start one. There are some out there you just have to look for them but like the first post they are usually filled with parents that lost a child. If you need anything I would love to help you in anyway even if it's just venting to me about how hard dealing with this all is.

Maybe one or more of us should start up a group on DS? I would gladly be one of them to set it up but would need someone else as an admin because I'm not that great at running groups.
I am surprised this thread has had as many responses as it's had because I've posted it in the past with no response. It's sad but good to know there are others out there in similar situations to mine. Comforting a little I guess.
