Apparently, the penalty for bestiality here in my state---WA--- is a mere 30 days in jail, and the guy gets to own dogs again in two short years. This is an outrage to me, and since I see such hypocrisy in this, I put out the following comment on an online newspaper----
"A message to all you fundamentalist Christians--- I can't believe that someone can get a paltry 30 days in jail, and have even the HOPE of being able to own a dog again in TWO short years after raping his dogs, yet people actively seek to prevent people like me from EVER being able to visit my partner in the hospital, or be able to adopt, etc. Where are you guys when THIS stuff happens? What about a constitutional ammendment that says that carnal relations are between willing humans only? The Bible condemns bestiality many more times than it mentions homosexuality, yet where are all the people with the signs, petitions, rallies, and voting power to deal with this? The law has the nerve to deny me my rights, yet it's okay with the idea that a dog rapist can be trusted with animals at some point in the near future? Incredible. It's high time all you Christians put your money where your mouth is and show us if it's REALLY about what you believe in, or if it's just convienient for you to be able to hide behind Bible verses to excuse your phobias. That is horrifying! Great response to the paper! I can't figure some people out, though I really have tried to understand, it just adds up to willful ignorance and hatred.
I say 'willful', because they refuse to look at any facts with any kind of honesty...they revel in their lack of knowledge. How can anyone combat that mindset???

As a Christian of Catholic & Liberal Protestant background, I have heard all the arguments about the Bible and what it says. I just keep wondering if these people who constantly quote scripture have actually READ the Bible, or if they are just repeating what they have been told. The Bible says all kinds of things, and some of them are pretty weird! I am one of those who believes that the great truths about God and life are contained in the Bible, not that every word of the Bible is divinely inspired. laurabp

I remember a few years ago, someone sent me an email regarding that. How with all the things the bible says, why people pick and choose to interpret some things as they see fit and other things just as they are written. It was amusing. It was in letter form, asking a church official how he should deal with things that people are not doing when the bible says they should. He asked how he should punish his next door neighbor for shaving. Also asked how he should punish the neighbor's child as the kid was talking back to his parents a lot.
I have no problem with anyone who is religious. I just have issues when certain people are singled out for a stupid generalized reason.

as far as people reading the bible I have always said that how can you take a book that was handwritten by candlelight by monks. how do we know they didnt change or add things or who knows what while they wrote the copies. I was raised in the church but it wasnt until I questioned what was being shoved down my throat that I opened my eyes to the hypocrits that hide behind religion as an excuse for hate. God loves us all no matter who or what we are, God is not hate or spiteful. humans are hateful, spiteful and judgmental.....
