I was recently diagnosed with ET last week. It took a year, neuro tests, and poked and proded like a guinea pig to get a diagnoses in 30 min at my new primary doctor in SLC.

go figure. My question if I have one would probably be, I've had this for a year and half now.. does it get worse? Does it go to the neck and head afterwards or just stay where you initally had it?

thanks
Jenn

" I was born with ET and find that it stayed at a low level constant. Hitting 50, it became nearly uncontrollable. Slurred speech, illegible handwriting missed attempts to pick up something etc. From what I see in the posts here, ET does affect every person in a different way and different body locations. So the answer to your question is yes, it does get worse as you get older. I can't answer your second question because the ET affects my body entirely. There is no cure Of course I saw a specialist and I got inderol. It made all the difference. See a neurologist, Get your neurologist to tell you about treatments. "

" I've had ET since I was really young. Yes, it does progressively get worse. Mine are mainly head & neck. Some in the hands, but not as bad. It does affect people differently. Sometimes if I'm really nervous/stressed it will affect my voice as well. There are different postural positions which make tremors worse or not as bad. I do find if I drink a glass of red wine or take a shot of brandy in the evening which the Dr. told me to do that it does help suppress them. My dad has them, my dad's dad had them & my son whom is 19 has them, mainly in his hands, but not too bad yet. ET effects mainly males in the hands & femals in the head/neck. There are a lot of famous people who had ET. We shouldn't view it as a disability. We're just like anyone else & those that love & care about us will look beyond our shaking. "
