I was diagnosed with ET just over a year ago and it has been getting progressively worse in that time. Unfortunately due to my asthma I am unable to take beta-blockers and taking Primidone turned me into a human goldfish, destroying my short term memory. I am also allergic to alcohol, so I have not been able to find any respite from the trembles - especially when nervous or in social situations.
Until recently my day to day activities were not greatly affected as my employers were very understanding and kindly changed my role within the company to accomodate my restrictions - less secrerarial duties, more a retail management role - but unfortunately I have been made redundant due to loss of business and now must find an income. Job interviews have always filled me with dread, and never more so than now. The hand tremor is quite embarrassing enough but when extremely nervous my legs shake and are unable to hold my weight, making walking impossible until I calm down again. All I ask is this: How do I explain in brief to a prospective employer what ET is and how it affects the duties I will be able to perform without alarming them? Posted on 11/07/09, 09:11 am |
