Medication for acid reflux

Hi again everyone! A GI doctor prescribed something for me that I've needed, wanted, and didn't know existed before seeing him this morning. I asked if there was some medication which could be taken immediately when acid reflux attacks. It's called "caraphate". It's a liquid (gold, by the price of it!) and 2 teaspoons full is supposed to sooth your throat and quell the acid immediately. Well, see, but I wanted to pass this along as I've felt pretty desperate for relief when this happens to me!

" Nope. And I'm not looking forward to the next attack in order to try it. I'm just thrilled to have something I can do as the attack is occurring. "

" Thanks for letting us know about the drug. Please post us on how well it works. Maybe it will remain untouched in your cabinet for the lack of attacks. I would love to have something that works immediately.

After my gasping has subsided I have always sat up and drank a cup of hot tea. This seems to help with neutralizing the acid. It's not immediate, but by the time the tea is finished I feel better and sleep the rest of the night in my easy chair.

My wife read your post on the description of the process of Dumping Syndrome. She said it helps her to know what is going on and why it is so difficult to keep from happening. Thank you for sharing. John "

" Thanks, Nancy, I read up on it a bit and will see what my GI Doc says next time I'm seeing him. Since I haven't had much issue with it - I'll probably wait until I see him in a year, but if I have an espisode will probably check in earlier with him :-)

Thanks, Jon, for the tip about the tea. I have a Keurig and keep Sleepytime tea on hand, so will try that, if it happens again too!

Definitely gonna see about perhaps getting the pneumonia shot when I see my family Dr. in 3 months, since I've been thinking about that for some time. I know Fred seemed to think it helped him and I'm all in for making life easier and doing preventative stuff! I'm always on top of all my tests since EC!

Now, I'm wondering too about the Shingles shot. I asked my family Dr. once and she said I should ask my oncologist. Course, I forgot. Don't want to do anything to mess anything up, but do like to do things they recommend and seems like it would be a good idea. Anyone have any thoughts on this? "

" I had the pneumonia shot about 3 days after my surgery they gave it to me in the hospital. My regular doctor said to get the shingles shot next year when I turn 60.

Hope this helps.........

Cheers Annie "
