Hi everyone,
I just have a wierd question to ask. Has anyone had this sort of side-effect while taking Keppra? You know how you sometimes get a song "stuck" in your head for a couple of days, but it goes away after a while? Well, for a few months now, that's been happening to me, but now the same song will be in my head for WEEKS..(one did'nt stop for 6 weeks, and I've had the present one going on for 5 now...no sign of it fading..). It's there as I wake up, while working on things ,as I go to sleep etc...etc.. etc.. It's so wierd and annoying, but I can't seem to do anything about it. I've never seen anything documented concerning this sort of thing, but I know some drugs can trigger types of obsessive/compulsive disorders, so I'm wondering if this is something along that line I was on Keppra once before for a couple of years and I don't remember it happening then, but it started exactly when I was put back onto it, and has'nt really stopped since then. I know there could be much worse things happening to me, and overall Keppra seems best for controlling my seizures so I would'nt want to go off of it just for that, but I AM curious. So... does anyone have any insight into this for me? Linda Posted on 09/22/07, 12:09 pm |

Hi Lindajane,
I'm on Keppra too, and I haven't had anything like that. But I think if it really bothers you try to focus your attention on something else, like reading a good book, or school, or a good soap opera. Maybe you have too much time on your hands to think about it? When I started feeling down, with Keppra, my doctor suggested that I had too much time on my hands to think about sad stuff, or not much to look forward to. SHe suggested that my hubby and I go on date nights every week, and that we go out with another married couple. Good luck, You'll get through this. Let your doctor know...maybe your dosage is too high?

I have epilepsy and am on Keppra. You can't turn off the song in your head? I am bipolar and epilepsy can have similar symptoms at times, like racing thoughts.

Hah, that's interesting, my husband had been complaining about having songs stuck in his head since he started on Keppra. He hums the same damn song (LOL) over and over again. Like the Apple comercials aren't bad enough...heheh!!

Hi Dizzy,
Well well, that IS interesting! Good (or maybe it's BAD) to hear that I'm not the only nutcase with this one! Another "undocumented" side effect, maybe? I AM going to mention this one to the Doctors next time. The latest one is now into it's seventh week, but it does seem to be fading a bit. I wonder what's going to replace it? I'd be ashamed of my humming abilities though, so at least my husband is spared from hearing songs I know he'd absolutely HATE...as if I did'nt hate them too! Thanks for letting me know! Linda

Thanks for the input Shirls.I'm going to keep tracking this thing.
Sounds like there are some similar patterns going on with a few of us. Good luck, and let me know of any further developments. PS> Song #4 (seven weeks) has finally taken the exit---thank heavens! Mind you, we've been having to deal with a family crisis for the past two days, so maybe the constant activity and stress have factored in here. It's been almost 48hrs., but I'll have to see if #5 makes an entrance. I'll keep everyone posted. Linda
