Making Friends

Do many of you have trouble making close friends? I have never been able to and really do not know why. All of my life it has been so difficult for me to get close to people, I usually cannot carry on normal conversations especially now. They will say things like "did you see last nights show with "" in it?" and I can never remember the names of the actor. At work now they will ask me how something is done, and I might say " I will find out", but should know how to already. I have been there 5 months. I have been going through this a great part of my life. I think it makes people sway away from me also? I have become a hermit pretty much, I spend alot of time alone and that is not good. Anyway, does anyone have suggestions? Cindy

" Candi, I worked for years in the elementary school system. Granted my job was just as a yard supervisor, but I spent a lot of time with the children getting to know them. We knew the children that had epilepsy and saw how they were out on the playground with other ones, how they got along, acted like there was nothing wrong with them either. That was what I meant I do not know much about how today's school system is working with the teachers being taught and trained.
I have had Epilepsy for 40 years now and taking the meds for that long also. Yes, it has messed with my memory, but has not made me live in the "shadows". Sorry you feel that way and sorry I bothered you with my reply. Cindy "

" Owl,

Your post did NOT bother me. I agree w/ what you said. I KNOW kids are MUCH more 'tolerant' of our disorder then adults. Children have always been my 'friends' when adults would shy away. It's other parents I have talked to, over the yrs, that claim they have problems w/ the 'school system,' NOT other kids. But, the Epilepsy Foundation DOES have LOTS of 'pointers' to help the parents & children afflicted w/ Epilepsy. And I believe in educating EVERYONE. Children may witness seizures & accept them as seen, but, it don't hurt for them to learn MORE. Maybe they would spread the word to their parents. :)

I'm glad you ain't in the 'shadows'. I misread what you were trying to say. I can relate to your memory loss, too. It's the pitts, huh? Sticky posts, chalk boards, magic erase boards, dry erase boards. Got them all. :)

Hope you are having a good day. HUGS!

God Bless

Love Candi & family "
