MRI Brain Scan

HI,

As well as epilepsy I have anxiety and panic attacks when i am in confined spaces. I have been told i have to go for a brain MRI next week ans even though it is only going to be of my head i am going to be stuck in the 'tunnel' for 30 mins and i don't know how i am going to cope with it.

I am absolutely terrified of going to the appt, more so than if they actually find anything.

Has anyone got any suggestions or been through the same sort of thing. I do take Diazepam on a daily basis but i honestly don't think that this is going to get me through for that long.

Thanks

Leya

" hey honey, dont worry. it doesnt take very long any more. the machines have moved on a bit.. i had one a few months ago. my epilepsy is stress sensitive and towards the end it started to get a little stressed so i had to try real hard not to jerk! but the time goes quicker than u think, and when u look up theres a mirror there so u can look out. so u dont feel completely trapped. if ur worried, have someone go in with u. id come wiv u if i lived near :D cuz i know what its like.
but you'll only have to be super super brave for like 15 mins. you'll be fine i promise. be over before u know it. they even play some music into ur headphones these ddays. what r u expecting them to find anyway hun? "

" Do not worry about it, and be confident. When I was young I had a EEG brain scan for 24 hours "

" I had it done in the MRI tunnel, but you have a choice to get the MRI tunnel or MRI outside the outside costs more like over 1,000 dollars, but medical insurance suppose to pay for it no matter what.
They have music playing in the background or t.v. even though you hear the banging of the machine. "

" Had lots for head and spine. Some I have actually gone to sleep and they had to wake me when they puled the tray table out. Just close your eyes before you go in, dont thrash about and feel the confined space, and they usually leave the feet open anyeway so your not totally enclosed. Friend of mine has a problem having them as is claustraphobic, but they give her something light before to relax her. They really take good care of you, so try not to stressed about it. Think nice thoughts with your eyes closed. "

" Like some of the others said, "Try to go to sleep". That's what I do. My meds make me sleepy anyway, so I just shut my eyes and relax. And it's not long. You can do it!! "
