TLE and memory loss

Hey all, I joined this group a while ago after a lady told me the anxiety attacks my doctor diagnosed could in fact be temporal lobe seizures (they were truely not anxiety attacks). I have since stopped having them and hence have not been properly diagnosed, but I am wondering if anyone who has TLE or experiences TL seizures has problems with memory loss? Not just memory loss of the event itself, but more like a swiss cheese memory...bits of information going missing or memories themselves disappearing?

" Oh yes, big holes of it. Most of my only childs childhood sadly. Friends often say, Do you remember..... Sometimes I can. And took several tests on machine before one happened while hooked up to prove it. Had two very scarey episodes, now I know to find a seat and wait for it to pass and just relax. Had no idea what shopping center I was in, if I was meeting anyone there, with anyone who may have been doing something elsewhere at that moment. How I got there, the works. Only happened once again so far, and know to just keep calm and sit till it passes and then all is ok again. My husband says he is afraid I will forget him one day. Has been told he is not that lucky!
Yet it is like a net too, and some parts you dont forget ever, as if there is no hole in that part. Very hard to explain it to others who dont understand. "

" I usually only reply when I can offer a helpful suggestion, but I have none here. I, too, have big gaps in my memory from my seizures and that's relatively common - UNFORTUNATELY. Just know you are not the only one, and perhaps you can work on some specific memory aids to help? "

" I was afraid I would get answers like this. Thanks for your replies :)

The reason I was asking was because I recently discovered the temporal lobe does hold memories, and I have had a horrible memory since around the time they started. I had originally attributed it to pregnancy since I experienced 'placenta brain' during pregnancy and the 'episodes' started when my baby was a month old. However, I wanted first hand accounts from people who experience them because my google search led me to the conclusion that it 'could' happen but usually after extended periods of time, and it wasn't necessarily common. I had them on and off for about a year...although I understand you can experience a TLS without even realizing it.

My memory problems include things like inability to remember instances that occurred months or years ago...very similar to what you described Aust when people ask 'do you remember...'. I also have problems remembering things career related that I learnt in college 5 years ago...things that should be such common knowledge to me now it's frustrating when that info tidbit is missing.

I will definitely research the memory aides you mentioned drdim, anything to feel normal again :) "
