Just wondering if anyone has taken this for a very long time and developed lupus symptoms. I've been diagnosed with MCTD (Mixed Connective Tissue Disease) and I've done some reading and found that there can be a correlation between the two if the patient has been taking it for a very long time. I've been taking it for 23 years. I also read that you can get a low white blood count too. So, I was wondering if anyone who has been taking this for a long time has developed any auto immune issues...

Sure, it would be Carbatrol or Tegretol mostly.
Carbamazepine has been sold under the names Tegretol, Biston, Calepsin, Carbatrol, Epitol, Equetro, Finlepsin, Sirtal, Stazepine, Telesmin, Teril, Timonil, Trimonil, Epimaz, Carbama/Carbamaze (New Zealand), Amizepin (Poland), Hermolepsin (Sweden) and Degranol (South Africa).[5]

Ive been taking Carbamazapine for about a year and a half so no that long really, although the doctors have told me that it can effect white blood count, so i have blood tests every month to check everything is ok.
I have really bad fatigue and sleep issues, some days i can sleep upto 23 hours and still be tired. I also have involuntary muscle spasms attributed to the drug. Hope this was helpful :)

I've been on Tegretol for several years, and has not had any side effects that I know of, except it makes me very drowsey.

Now you explained the other names, yes I have been on it. Had the most horrific nightmares with it every night. They got me off it quite quickly so wasnt on long enough to know of any other side effects. But while taking it still, had to have an op, and before going into theatre the nurse checking everything said she was on it as had to be very clear in her mind to be a theatre nurse, but gave her nightmares. Told her me also. Wish I had seen her again after op to find out more.

I was on tegretrol for 20 something years (Carbatrol too) and now I am being weaned off of it to go on Zonegran. I now have Fibromyalgia. I have broken 3 bones in the last fives years and I suffer from numerous joint problems and I think alot of it is casued by the long usage of the Tegretol so I am glad to be going off of it. My bone density test was btw borderline .

I've been on Tegretol for 9 years now; it's never seemed to really fully work for me, I still have seizures like hell at times. And for like the past 2 years or so, I've been extremely tired all the time, no matter how much or how little I sleep. And when I do sleep, I always go into these bizarre nightmares & wake up sweating to death. Also I have developed the problem with my eyes being extremely sensitive to sunlight, I always have to have sunglasses on.
