My daugther had her 1st seizures when she was 2 months old she is now almost 11 months old and has been seizure free. She is now being weaned off her med. She was on 6.25 ml Nightly and now down to 5 ml nightly. every two weeks they are downing the dose my 1 ml. So within 10-12 weeks (if everyhting goes good) she will be off meds.
My point is now that her dosage is getting lower Iam getting more paronid about everything she does that does not seem "normal". She is our 1st child so we are unsure what normal kids do. If she is doing something that is not "normal" i will say her name or something and she will always responed right away. How do I just relax and let God do the job of healling her? I am just scared or the unknown I guess. Posted on 06/27/07, 12:06 pm |

You pray and if it doesn't work, pray some more. What's going to happen will happen no matter how much sleep you lost etc etc. When I was 15 I was weaned off Tegretol and for 2.5 beautiful months I was seizure free w/o medication. Then I had a grand mal. You never know, but fear of the unknown won't get you anywhere. If you need to talk to your daughter's neuro about the behavior she exhibits, research on the internet. Do what you need to to be there for your daughter. I'll keep you in my prayers, it must be very scary from the parental side.

I guess, as a person who is loaded with seizure meds myself, the question is why take them away?
I see it's your first child. I am on my first child too--about to be three years old this week. Apparently, some kids have seizures early on and then just grown out of them. But if it IS something you're concerned about, talk to your pediatrician. And enjoy your daughter's growing up. It only happens once.

I agree with all of the above.
If you have any concerns with your childs development the best person to consult is your childs pediatrician.when our fist born had her first seizure at 4mths old, you can't help but sleep with one eye open. it's that constant worry that clouds your every day and night wondering when the next czr will happen and then worrying about what damage has these czrs have occured hang in there my thoughts are with you

Pheno is one of the hardest drugs to wean off. I'm 42 and I take 100mg once a day. I'm also on Lamictal and Tegretol. I put my meds in those weekly plastic cases and accidently put tegretol where my pheno went because they looked alike. As the week progressed I had seizures but the scary part was it made me a bit crazy and moody. Best to get her off it very slowly but as soon as possible because my doc said the longer you take pheno the harder it is to get off it. Good luck. I will say some prayers.
