Today, I came back from shopping, and found my dog: lying on the floor shaking(no trauma), and it took about 3 mins then he woke up(belive me, eyes open, ttrembling hysterically, and couldn't move, eyes blank, couldn't stand), my husband and I trznsported outside. Like I had sais took like 3 mins then he was able to run and play. It scared both of us(I know this is not about pets), but my brother, me, my dog, and my best friend(that now lives over 3300 miles away) all suffer from epilepsy. Could there be some kind of enviromental factor? I know its not contagious, but it is just too ironic, don't ya think? Or are there that many people effected with this condition? I just don't believe its coincidental..... does living near old coal mines effect it? Is there research about that???? Please if anyone has any answeres leave me know... thanks..malissa

Here is another link for you concerning the pet/human possible link to seizures. :) http://www.dogtorj.net/
Have you tried googling/searchin w 'epilepsy in coal mining towns'? I am not sure. The most predominant illness in/around Coal Towns/mines affects the Lungs. But, there are over 40+ Types of Seizures epilepsytalk.com/ & 1000's of Different causes, including various environmental issues. :( When it comes to EP: Don't discount Anything! Until Doc/tests prove different. That's what I say. :) Love Candi

Animals do get epilepsy. This has nothing to do with a family member having epilepsy or the like. My best advice is to take your pet to a vet. Phenobarbitol has been the drug given pets with Epilepsy I've been told based on a couple of case histories regarding animals with epilepsy. As for the rest, just keep loving it and treat it as you always have. Give it reassurances as best you can that all is OK after one of it's seizures because it sure is no fun for an animal to have these seizures either.
