Tongue Biting

Hi all,

I haven't had a seizure in about 4 years but had one on Tuesday - oddly enough during my sleep. I know I bite my tongue during these but this seems much worse this time around. My doctor couldn't see me but prescribed prescription antihistamines urgently as I was beginning to be unable to swallow my tongue was swelling so bad. Anyway, my question is, stupid! Does your tongue heal? My speech is a little different and is still swollen. I have no recollection of the seizure but was totally confused when I çame to'(so to speak)
Is this normal in your experience?

" yes your tongue heals lol it'll eventually go back to normal. when i use to have my seizures i ALWAYS bit my tongue on the side and it would leave a HUGE welt D; freakin hurt like hell but don't worry so much about it. and if it's normal i'm not sure o,,o lol but as u can tell i had to deal with the tongue biting as well so even if it isnt u always have a friend that has the same problem :P "

" Thanks Rainbows - I'm glad to say it's starting to heal, it just seems to have taken an age to do so. It's like spraining one ankle and wishing the other would take the load for a while! Thanks everyone for your advice and support. "

" Hey Kamz, yes, sleep seizures are scary in their own weird way. Of the 4 that I've had in the last year, 3 were when I was asleep. I've bit my tongue all of those times too. Depending on how bad you bite it, it eventually goes back to normal but sometimes it might take a week to feel better. The no recollection and being totally confused with a hurting tongue is normal. The doctor prescribing antihistamines is kind of strange to me. Really you ought to drink something cold and take an anti-inflammatory like Advil (Ibuprofen). Antihistamines are for allergies, which is silly because seizures and bitten tongues certainly have nothing to do with allergies from what I've researched and learned in my own experience and nursing experience too. Hope you feel better, less seizures for you. Hope you don't have another one ever again! "
