Recently my daughter went through a very intense allergy testing. We had five visits to the allergist where the nurse injected her with different allergens at different strengths to find her "highest tolerable level" The way this doc works is he believes in only giving the allergens that she is actually allergic to instead of giving a general allergy shot. So she has a custom program just for her. They sent us to a "shot class" and sent us home with 10 vial's of things she is allergic to. Now I have to do the shots at home. I am very overwhelmed with the whole thing. I want her to feel better but we have been to so many doctors and all of them so far couldn't come up with anything until now. This doc believes that all her pain in her joints and muscles, mood swings, hives, including the basic allergy reactions runny nose itchy eyes are all allergy based. Has anyone had any success with the shots? I hate to go through this for nothing. according to this doc it can take from 2 to 6 years to get desensitized. Just overwhelming. Thanks for any thoughts.

" Sometimes allergy shots work . For me they did not. Nor did they for my husband. Yet others have had great success. I do better just taking an over the counter med - zyrtec at bedtime than the shots. My husband's allergies went away after our pet dog died so I guess that was the trigger. He has not has asthma since. Our son and granddaughter both use inhalers and take prescription allergy medicine to keep their asthma under control. In my son's case he no longer has asthma attacks. This is how our whole family seems to do best. Hope something here is of help to you in deciding what to do. "

" I am on the allergy protocol. It has not helped me yet. My doctor tells me it takes at least a year. I have been on them for 6 or 7 months. Good luck. The only thing I found works is complete avoidance. "

" I think the hassle and risks outweigh the benefits, myself. I had shots for years, but the same old stuff bothers me.

But my daughter did shots for several months, and when she discontinued them, she said her allergies got worse.

I'm sorry, this is not a more helpful reply. "

" I have been on shots for a year, and have seen slight improvement, i that I don't get as many sinus infections. Other symptoms are still there. I will continue as long as the doctor thinks I should try, simply because I have invested the time (and $$) for the past year so I will give it a chance. I hear sometimes it can take 2-3 years before it helps. "
