Anaphylaxis is going to kill me

I realized this summer that I am going to die from this disease. I am severly allergic to cashmere. I am so sensitve that if I go near anyone wearing it or a place where it was an anaphylactic reaction occurs. This has been going on for 2 years and I'm going into my third winter. During the first year it would happen 4 times a week. Never had to use my epi-pen, but I am not as quick to use as the others. My cocktail of meds contains very strong antihistamines and cortizone shots to lessen and stop the reactions. Atarax stops them everytime so far. Last month my heart stopped three times in one day. It was going so fast and irregular that it would seize and stop for about 5 sec and than restart before I had to use my pen. This experience made me realize that I am going to die from this. All the doctors I have gone to tell me that there is nothing they can do and each reaction is going to be worse than the next. Without the meds and now heart meds I would be dead by now. The most frustrating thing is that there is no cure. I have so many bottles for this symptom and that symptom, but nothing to stop it. It got worse a lot faster than I thought it would. Now my other sensitivities that weren't very bad are turning into full allergies and causing anaphylactic reactions. Its a never ending fight.

HI Marissa, this is not a reply which you are going to like, but it is the only way I can live a safe llfe -- on doctor's advice after a week in ICU including a coma and brain damage ( went away after 1 yr. except for when I get toxic exposures) I have to live in isolation. That is all that is safe for me. I hate it, I am normally social. The first thing was to make my bedroom safe, then gradually the rest of the house. It took over a yr. of trial and error but now my house is safe. There are good support groups that will help you. We make friends on line who seem like family, use phones, email and talk outside keeping a safe distance from other person. Thus I survive. Nothing else helped. No medicine. No treatment other than avoidance. This helped.

Avoidance is what helped me, too, but I didn't have any anaphylaxis.
You could look into this self-accupressure technique I use, called Emotional Freedom Technique. You can download the manual for free, or get the book at any bookstore. If you cannot tolerate books, can you put it under a glass baking dish, like I did? www.emofree.com My former therapist has MCS, and severe allergies, and she practices Emotional Freedom Techniques. Can you tolerate Milk Thistle? Seems your liver could use a detox, and MT is very mild.

Are you sure its soley the cashmere? Is it all types of wools as well? Wool has tons of chemicals on it and people clean it with tons of chemicals too so thats also something to consider (it could be a chemical reaction to somethig on the wool). I've had tons of different kinds of symptoms including my heart stopping, passing out, and seizures since I became sensitive to things, its really scary. The only thing you can really do is avoid what causes you problems. I recommend getting the alcat test for chemicals and perservtives etc. because there may be something else putting a burden on your immune system (like an underlying issue) creating the cashmere reaction. Also did you change your enviornment or diet when these reactions started? You could also try goin to a holistic doctor. You should also look into the fact that you might have multiple chemical sensitivty.

I have just switched physicians and she did a blood work up to see if there were other allergens contributing snd of course there a lot. So now I have been referred to a different allergist to be desensitized to those allergens. I had to give my cats to my mom and I am changing the flooring, bedding, couches, ect. I just read about a study that was completed this year about the molecular mechanism of Anaphylactic shock . They discovered that RGS13 protein (regulates G proteins) helps stop the fatal rections. Supression of certain G protiens in blood vessel walls protect animals from the most severe anaphylactic reactions. They think they will be able to create new meds to stop reactions. There is some hope.
