Extra bad year for allergies?

Hi, everyone. I live in the Northeast US. I've had allergies to dust, pollen, and mold for most of my life, and usually I can control them somewhat with medication, or just wait it out. Well, this year is the worst I've ever experienced! It's been cool and rainy since June (much of April and May, too). We aren't really even having what I'd call a summer. The past 2 months it has rained probably all but 3 or 4 days. This means lots of mold, which was making me feel awful. And now, added to that, the RAGWEED is out a whole freakin' month early!!! And I live in the country, so there's really no escaping it, even though when I'm inside my air purifier is always on.
Every morning I wake up grouchy (this is usual for me...lol) because my head is soooo stuffed up I am seriously dizzy/lightheaded, and short of breath. This improves somewhat within several hours of my getting up, but still the lightheadedness persists all day, to some degree, and often I find myself hastily gulping air because I feel like I can't get enough. And my memory and concentration are SHOT and I am always tired. I HOPE this is just allergies. Any other people who, like me, live in the seventh circle of Hell that is the Northeast, and have similar issues this year??? I soooo want to move to Arizona! :) Posted on 07/24/09, 03:07 pm |

hi, I live in the country too and here in Iowa summer came in for three days, not together though. So many rainy days since May have turned weeds/plants into giants. Mold is rampant. Vinegar works every bit as well as bleach actually better(not toxic) for mold on most anything. I don't have regular allergy's. I have multiple chemical sensitivities. When I'm in town, the smoke from people B.B.Q.ing and using starters, causes days of breathing problems and the headaches, sinus, not sleeping well, etc. I have major problems when people use citronella products and most times where there is cooking-out there is bug control. I was always told that those products don't affect people because they are plant based. I have immediate suffocation type reactions, can't miss it. I take dye free benadryl 5 x's daily every day just to maintain and must use an in-haler if I have breathing problems that worsen.
Sorry about the book. I hope you feel better soon. I'm looking to the dessert ? of lower Colorado. Wish I was fishing, LOL.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having a rough year. So you are having rain as much as we are, it sounds like. And--of course something plant-based could bother you...nearly ALL my sensitivities are to plants! :)
I take Benadryl sometimes, but I always know it will most likely make me VERY drowsy. It is good as a mild sleeping pill, for me. So I usually only take it when I'm home. It works better than anything else for allergies. SO FAR; I just tried Zicam nasal swabs for the first time today, and I did feel better...although some of that may have been the unusual SUNNY weather! lol

We are having the strangest weather across the country. I've said for the last several yrs. the farmers here should open "dude"farms,LOL. The last two yrs. I've thought about a bait shop. Minnows would keep just fine in the basement and I wouldn't worry because the sump pump isn't keeping up!!. LOL and a giggle.
I have taken Benadryl Dye Free for about nine years so the sedative reaction wore off a long time ago. That's a very good thing. I also take Tramadol, 2, 3x's daily, and baclaphine 2x's a day. These have been for the last four yrs. I have to drive myself around, unless.... I want to wait for someone in the family to "have the time". I've imagined how much weight I'd lose with that option. (big grin). I don't drive when I take the baclaphine(spelling optional today)

Hi, I live in the Midatlantic States. We are having a terrible year for allergies. The pollen counts lately are sky high. Our weeds seem on the way to treedom. Natural does not mean safe.
I also have multi-chemical sensitivities to cookouts, fireplaces, woodstoves, scented candles and oils burning and any fragranced product . Why is clean unperfumed air so rare? I use zyrtec, but this summer it does not seem to be working as well as usual. Sorry for those of you with breathing problems. I get brain fog, exhaustion lasting for days.

Note from Northern MN: The weeds are winning. My brain fog is so bad, I tried 3 times to add a comment on April3third's discussion and failed each time. It's so cool here this year that we wouldn't be able to use an air conditioner even if we had one. About all I can do, besides ClaritinD or equal, is to determine the side of the house with the clearest outside air, and blow the air in, to force the pressure out from offending polutants (smoke, weedy pastures, fragrances, etc.). Just one suggestion from one stuffy, dizzy person to another. Maybe we will get an early frost (or move to California??)
:-\?

Wow, summer has ended(when did it start?) rain was the usual order of the day. Grandson started back on his in-haler about the same time school started(last week of Aug.) With all of the moisture and coolness, the mid-west should have a spectacular fall color show, Yeah!! I'll be watching from this side of the windows for a while though. For some unknown reason the farmer across the road decided to" air "spray their soy beans, on a Sunday morning!!!!. In the month of Aug. alone, five of these planes crashed. No injury's (t.y,G)Well, bless them all, those troglodytes too, I guess. LOL. Oh.....humm..early this month I was Rx'd a portable nebulizer to use when I can't get the breath in to use rescue in-haler, timely?
Hope the day brings easier breathing for us all.
