My life has been ruined

I will try to keep this as short as possible...

Hello, I'm Alex, just joined.
If you'd like to skip my life story, I summarized the idea in the last paragraph. I'd just like to know who else out there has my problem, and how you've dealt with it.

I would like to start this by saying that I haven't felt good since 6th grade. I moved to Pennsylvania from California at the end of my sixth grade year... I always felt fatigued there, and my head felt fuzzy a lot of the time...
And nausia was a frequent part of my life... I learned to adapt, and eventually it didn't matter... I could function, but never had much energy...

When we moved back to Ca 3 years later, my life fell apart. My allergies had apparently gotten worse. My new school and church were especially bad. (I'm severely allergic to dust, mold, most pollen except pines, multiple foods, and cats.)
My stomach, and other parts of my body would burn on the outside, and my food allergies caused my insides to feel horrible, as well... my thinking was fuzzy, I almost always felt fuzzy in the noggen... I thought I was going crazy, because I had no idea my allergies could cause things this bad... I thought I was posessed, or something.

I was determined to fight what I thought (and what developed into anxiety) and succeeded multiple times, only to be crushed again by my damned allergic response... unfortunately, I thought I was weak, and that these simptoms were fightable. This lowered my self esteem and confidence to almost nothing. This combined with the fuzzy head, and crappy stomach feelings (which were lessoned when I got out of a few bad rooms.) Caused socializing to be difficult, and although I have made quite a few friends and aquantences, have never had a girlfriend. I'm 19 now, and know that I've missed out on a huge part of my life. Once again, I thought I was weak or something... these simptoms feel a lot like lack of confidence...

Basically, my allergies have ruined my life, because I don't know how I feel emotionally most the time.(Because of my physical discomfort I'm kind of just there, a lot of the time. It's hard to make new friends, in certain classrooms because I
m so run down most the time... I do have friends, though. Does anyone else feel this way?
(My worst simptoms are: weird/crappy feelings on stomach/in stomach kind of like burning, fuzzy almost disabled parts of my brain... Can't think very well... Anyway, thanks for reading, I hope you understand what I'm saying, because right now my head feels really out of whack, like I could just float off any moment.

" Hi Alex! Did you know CA is one of the worst states for allergies? Get out. Get out now! lol. I used to live in the bay area, which is apparently the worst place for allergies. I used to feel just like you do! I remember when I was little, I felt like such an outcast because I couldn't go outside for recess. I felt so gross, always coughing and sneezing. I just wanted the day to end so I could go home and take a nap.

In NC, my allergies aren't as bad, which is sad, seeing as they are worse than anybody else's I know. I feel so bad because people laugh at me when I'm having a bad allergy day. They are just poking fun, but it really makes me feel worse. And I hate it. I'm so tired of people asking me if I'm crying. Ugh.

My symptoms include itchy, watery eyes, runny or stuffy nose, coughing, itchy throat, throbbing head, fatigue, and stomach pains. If the pollens are bad enough, my skin will break out a bit. The headaches are the worst. I can hardly think straight because all I do when I have a bad allergy day is watch the clock tick the hours until I can escape...but then again, I still can't escape. "

" Do you have bad reactions to chemicals, fragrances, cleaning supplies, laundry detergents, scented candles, air fresheners, pesticides, etc? Even if you don't actually perceive a reaction to them, you could be chemically sensitive. Stay away from those things as much as possible.

Have you tried an air purifier in your bedroom? At least you could maybe sleep in some comfort that way. "

" You are justified in being very upset about how the allergies have ruined your life. There is something that helps me with both my emotional and physical symptoms, and it's free and easy to do. You can download the manual for free, or buy the book at any bookstore for just $14.95. Try it, it cannot hurt and may help:

" All my health issues started in the 6th grade too. I developed a deadly allergic reaction to antihistamines so I never have relief of my allergies ever. Then I had a undiagnosed allergic reaction to my braces which went on for two years but severely for 9 months. Then the following 3 years after that I had undiagnosed egg allergy. The thing about allergies is you can develop new ones at any time and will continue to be allergic no matter where you go. Instead of asking yourself what your allergic to you need to find out why your allergic at all. Regardless if your chemically sensitive or not, chemicals are creating extra immune responses in your body because they are toxins. Replace all of the chemicals in your surroundings with all natural cleaners and all natural toothpastes, shampoos and soaps. Eat as much organic food as possible. I would recommend a naturopathic/ holistic doctor preferably one that does NEAT therapy too just to feel out your situation. A regular MD allergist will say that these techniques don’t work but don’t forget that they make their money off you staying sick and buying their drugs. "

" Kat's right. In my opinion, conventional allergists are useless. "

" Alex, I am so sorry to hear you have had these problems. I too have many allergies but have not suffered the way you have. For the last 18 months I have been getting NAET treatments and they have changed my life. I would encourage you to explore the treatments and see if you think they would be a good option for you. It is accupuncture and the treatments have worked very well for me. It is a long process but there is light at the end of the tunnel. You can research the treatments online by googling NAET and you can purchase the book on Amazon.com. Best of luck to you and if I can answer any questions, I would be happy to do so. "

" Oooops I meant NAET therapy too, sorry for the spelling error. I’ve had it done before and was lucky to have a doctor do it for just the cost of regular visits. "

" Your post makes me so sad. I hate to see someone so young go through this. You described it perfectly and I know exactly what you are going through. I didn't have any allergies until I moved to the Northwest in Washington and they are awful.
I can honestly tell you that I have tried it all and had surgury twice.
The things that really made difference for me are neilmed sinus rinse and an air cleaner. Pollen is the worst for allergies and the rinse can be a life saver. You can buy it at any walmart or drug store for 10 dollars. It's just a saline solution that you irrigate your sinuses with and you can do it as many times a day as you need.
If I had treated my allergies when I was your age, I probably wouldn't have had to have the surgury twice and been a much happier person for it.
I hope my advice helps you some and don't feel alone in this as it's a problem for so many of us. "

" Hi Alex,

The best thing that ever happened to me was finding out just how bad my allergies are. My husband would joke that I was allergic to everything... Now I think I am. The worst part was that my seasonal allergies are so servre that my body then created food allergies.

But the good is now I am in control. I know that the sleepy, dizzy, fuzzy, itchy, upset, nervous, sick feeling was the food I was eating. I now know that the 60 lbs. I gained was because I was allergic to wheat and yeast. I know have the power.

I learned about my food allergies in August of 08. Since then I have begun weekly allergy treatment and stopped eating the food I am allergic to. I've lost 40 lbs, and actually enjoy being outside!

I still take 2 allergy medicationa a day, but I am starting to feel so much better.

Basically,my advice to you is to be empowered. Find doctors that beleive in food allergies. So many doctors don't think food can make you feel so bad, but my primary care & ENT both truly beleive just how badly a person can feel because of allergies.

Good luck & feel better! "
