Does anyone else have a daily cycle where nasal congestion is much worse at night? I have tried taking allegra just before going to sleep, but it does not seem to help. The congestion loosens up with morning coffee and getting going.

Some times drinking water in the evening seems to help, but that has the obvious problem ...

" Yes, mine is also worse at night. I use Nasalcrom just before bed & it helps; also got the covers for matress & pillows that prevent allergens from coming through. Every little bit makes a difference, I guess. Dr. prescribed a different spray, but as my co-pay for it is $50, it will stay on the pharmacy shelf. "

" Thanks!

I have the pillows and sheets taken care of, but Nasalcrom is a new one.

Thanks again. "

" Same thing happens with me. I haven't found a solution for it yet. A long hot shower in the morning helps aftewards. "

" mine does too. use two pillows and buy a netti pot. It looks like a little genie pot but you put saline water in in and pour it into one nostril and in goes thru sinus' and out the other. Have Kleenex handy cause you will want to blow. Make sure you lean way over when doing this so it doesn't go down your throat and choke you. It's easy to use and boy does it help with the congestion. You can do it 2-3 times a day. I have hyper plastic rhinitis in my nose, which smells,
humidity, smoke, allergies, etc. makes it swell up and this has really helped.
I also use veramist spray in nose (prescription) and this has helped more than any of nasal sprays they have given me. "

" Perhaps your bedroom is really dry, and you could try a humidifier? "

" My dr. told me that a humidifier can actually make allergies worse. The dust mites, mold etc. will flourish in the humidity.

Of course they say a ceiling fan makes it worse too, but I'm not giving up my ceiling fan at night... "

" I like the Nasalcrom Bedecent suggested, it seems to help.
I'm not sure I have the nerve for a nettle pot, but I may try it.

We live in the Pacific NW, so lack of humidity is rarely a problem. Warm showers, or leaning over a small humidifier provides some temporary relief. I use mite proof covers on the bed and pillow cases. I have tried running dehumidifier in the room for a few days while I was gone. I hear that if you can drop the humidity enough it kills them. But I'm not sure if that is the problem.

Thanks everyone! "

" Also vitamin C or grape juice, *Concord* Grape
juice,it has to be Concord Grape Juice, drink a glass before going to bed,
i read it helps congestion. It is also good for your heart and immune system, kinda like red wine the red or purple grapes has antioxidents in them!! If this doesn't work you can sleep with 2 pillows because laying flat will give you more congestion. Also
a coffee mug of warm or hot water heated
in microwave and add a tablespoon of honey and a whole or half lemon sqeezed in cup,
and drink, the honey looses it up and the
lemon will detoxify your liver and a great antioxident, but rinse your mouth with *cool* water when you get done to get the acid off your teeth. "

" Great suggestions, Smiley!

Brush your teeth after drinking the Grape juice, though. From personal experience, I was eating a lot of blueberry preserves, and my teeth turned blue! So embarrassing until I got to the dentist finally for a cleaning. "

" I read that too about the grapes! They are supposed to be an "anti mucus food". Make sure the grape juice is not from concentrate but also watch out for sugar because sometimes one glass of grape juice can have 60 grams of sugar and it might keep you up. "
