I had to quit my job because I became severely allergic to the touch and smell of cardboard. The same with paper and some plastics. I go into convulsions and my throat closes.
I can't touch, smell, or even be around any type of corn (cornsyrup in food, corn starch, corn flour, etc.) My spleen swells greatly, my throat closes, I get severe headaches, and I get severely dizzy. I haven't past out yet but I sure feel I will. My mom has to sit with me everday incase I go into a reaction. She does Reflexology on my feet and I drink salt and baking soda in water to stop the reactions. I have many, many more life threatening allergies. I am a prisoner in my house I can't go outside because of the smells. I can't go anywhere because of the exaust fumes. I even cover my nose with cloth, but the smells come right through. But then my nose and lips go numb because of the fabric touching them. I am using 'Seventh Generation' unscented products. I personaly can only use their unscented dish washing soap in the shower for my hair and body. My husband and daughter were using that too until my mom gave me her soap to try 'Grandpa Brands'. (she has severe allergies also, but not as many as me). They can use her soap, but I can't. My family has to air out for about a half hour after they shower before they can come around me. whenever they go somewhere they have to shower when they come home so I don't react. We recently had a yard sale to get rid of everything I was allergic to. My house is pretty bare. But I'm still coming across things that I can't have ot be around. I have a reaction of one type or another everyday. I can't take it any more. I've been like this since July. I am continualy getting worse. I feel I am going insane. It is extremely hard on my family. I was wondering if there is anyone else like me and if there is a sollution to this madness. I am taking vitamin C, B Complex, and Zinc. I can't take any medications. Is there anything else I can do. I can't leave the house to see my Dr. She won't treat me until she see's me. What am i going to do? Please Help!!! Dear Janette
I am very sorry to read about your situation. I can realate to your condition, I also have multiple chemicle sensitivity. Mine has come about as part of having chronic fatigue syndrome, which can produce lots of bizarre symptons. There are lots of us it seems, I only realised I had this about a year ago, it is difficult thing to come to terms with. You are doing the right thing in cleaning up your environment, nutritional therapy/clical ecology are ways forward there is also a good book by sherry rogers called detoxify or die which someone reccomended i read when I first knew I had this, it has lots of treatment suggestions in it and she sees clients as well though I would think its not cheap. Im sorry I dont really have any real answers for you as I am in pretty much the same situation as you at the moment also re doctors not believing me but at least we can chat and support eachother and give eachother recognition on here. Hugs to you Pom

Hi Janette and Pom, I am 58 and have MCR for about 15 yrs now. At first it was pesticides and herbicides, I also live in the heart of Iowa agriculture. My Dr. told me at Dxing it would only get worse and it has, my reaction list is amazing. I can use some of 7th gen products, everything I use is free and clear. I have used benadryl dye free for 10yrs, one/two 5x's a day, carry an eppie pen, and a rescue in-haler. People think its a scent thing but it's not, scent is more like a warning. I can relate Janette about going to the Dr.'s my dxing Dr. back in 1994 told me Never in-hale Anything for a test because they probably/most likely will not be able to stop the reaction in time to save me. That bit of info has been invaluable, but has also angered a lot of Doc's. Mine also said be careful, hospitals kill people like you, not on purpose mind you but because they don't listen there. Now I live in the country-side have not been employable since 1994 so I'd spent 7 years working to get SSI, whole nother story. If you look at my profile it shortens this post,T. G. This is a most excellent group, so wishing you well(as you can be)

Janette, I
've worried about you! Sounds like you're still in the thick of it, that's for sure. Pom, Ghee, I, and so many others on DS have chemical sensitivities, too. Can you find a holistic doctor? I had one, and his office was set up to be safe for the chemically sensitive, no fragrances, air purifiers going, etc. Your adrenal glands are probably shot. Look into cortisol treatment. Tom's of Maine makes a good unscented bar soap. I use that, and cannot tolerate much else, besides, as you mentioned, Seventh generation dish soap. For shampoo, I use Organic Excellence Chemical free shampoo. Cannot tolerate any other. You can get a charcoal/organic cotton mask from Janices' a mail order shop. You are not alone. It is horrible, I know. I've got a new friend on here, he's married and has three kids under six years old, he's dealing with pesticides in his house, and severe sensitivities. I feel so bad for all of us, especially the younger folks. Scroll down here, and also in the Environmental Illness Group, for lots of info and links on MCS. Hang in there, we're praying for you. Pam
