Green light pvp vs holep

I am thinking of having surgery for my BPH. I am using Avodart to control the growth and possible shrinkage of the prostate. I couldn't tolerate the alpha blocker drugs, i.e. Flomax, etc. I have been using Avodart for about 5 months without any real benefit. Of course there are the negative sexual effect of the drug.

I am trying to decide which type of surgery to have. I am concerned with the HOLEP surgery because of the retrograde ejaculation. I am lucky enough to live next to the Mayo clinic, where the doctor is one of the 15 docs in the USA to perform the surgery. The advantage of Holep over PVP, is that they due a more thorough job, they can examine the tissue, and you shouldn't need the procedure again, oh yeah increased urine flow and no more getting up at night,

The PVP is less evasive, quicker recovery, no cath no hospital stay. No retrograde ejaculation, I think. However you may have to repeat the procedure in 5 years. Also they cannot examine any tissue because it is vaporized.

I am very interested in hearing back from anyone who has had either one of these procedures, especially if they have long term results, greater than 6 months. My doctor tells me that retrograde ejaculation is nothing to be concerned about if I am not interested in having children, which I am not. I just can't get past the psychological thought of retrograde ejact.

Thanks

Al
